ShrwdTech,

I thought I might as well go straight to the source for a firm answer about a warranty question. I bought a Maximus reg in May '03. While I was inspecting the reg before my last trip I noticed the top half of the Sherwood logo (the silver piece) on the front of the reg is missing. I contacted the shop I bought it from and was told that Sherwood won't warranty this.

I was in another shop (also Sherwood dealer) getting an air fill and mentioned it to them. They also said Sherwood won't warranty that part. They told me that two of their instructors have the same problem and just live with it.

Obviously this part is only cosmetic and doesn't impact the function of the reg, but it surprises me that Sherwood won't stand behind the product. Is it really Sherwood's policy not to warranty the front cover, or is the LDS just trying to avoid dealing with it?

Thanks

The first shop was correct. I'd replace that under warranty without any problem at all.

We know it's just a cosmetic thing that comes up from time to time, but in the essence of good customer service, we have no problem at all with swapping that out.

You don't have to post the names, but I'm curious where the dive shops were. What part of the country.

Thanks!

Thanks for your response.

One shop is in Chandler, Az. the other is in Phoenix, Az.

Since it appears neither shop is interested in working on this, can I deal with Sherwood direct?

I wish I could do that, but I am bound by my dealer agreements to work through them.

Take it in to the dive shop of your choice, well... the dive shop of your choice who is a Sherwood Dealer.. and tell them you spoke to me.

They will call me for an RGA # and send the part back to me for a warranty replacement. Don't leave it up to them to decide. I'll keep an eye out for it and turn it asap as I did with DA Aquamaster's computer.

Just wait for a week where you know you aren't going to use the reg and can live without it. Give the shop a day for the rga and to ship it, UPS a day to get it here, me to work on it, then ups a day to get it back. Then add a day for any delays and we have ourselves a week gone by.

Have a great weekend!

I have an Oasis that I bought in 1994. (I don't have the serial number with me.) I was told that parts are no longer available for that model and that I was lucky to have it serviced last month...i.e. the shop that serviced it still had some parts available. Is this true? Will I have to hang up my favorite backup reg next year?

I'd hate to do that, it's one of my favorite regs!

Shrwdtech,

I have a trip scheduled for the first week of October, then another trip at the end of October, so I will hang on to it until after those trips. I'll get it sent to you in November - unless I can find another trip to take!.

Thanks for the information.

Service Kits and MOST parts are still available for this regulator. Some things are not. Purge button plates and inserts, for example, in the 2nd stage are no longer in production and are out of stock here.

But for the most part, the greater majority of parts for your reg are still available, including all the normal parts for an annual service.

No worries at all. As long as it's not causing you any troubles, hand onto it until you are ready. I will get it taken care of for you when you are all set!

Enjoy the trips!!!

I have a sherwood maximus that i've been using for the better part of three years. In the last couple months i've been diving a lot more than usual. (4-5 times a week) Anyways the adjustment knob on my second fell off about 3 weeks ago, I thought nothing of it and took it in to get a new one, but it happened today again. I this a common problem? It never happened before august and it has at least 150 dives. Thx

Cam

I don't personally own a Maximus, but my buddy does. She has one she bought second hand, & it it seems to be a great reg. However, just as you describe, the adjustment knob fell off. She had it replaced about a month ago, but when we were doing a pool dive last week it fell off again. Maybe some LocTite on the screw? I dunno. Comments?
