Which of these sentences would you prefer to use and why? Both are correct.

1) I dove with a large group off the coast of Africa.

2) I dived with a large group off the coast of Africa.

I think one sounds better for past tense but I think almost everyone else would choose sentence two.

To question 2) sentence 1...The word dived just sounds wrong.
