I have never taken over 30 minutes performing a visual inspection. And that was when I was inspecting tanks during the class.

Maybe the tank requires tumbling. If you bought it from the dive shop, it would make sense that they would correct anything prior to giving it to you. Or it is the inspector at the shop is busy doing multiple jobs. One dive shop I worked at performed visual inspections only a couple days a week.

My LDS always does vis while I wait. Unless the vis results in a tank needing cleaning it takes just a few minutes. 15 minutes seems like it is probably longer than I've ever waited.

I guess if the shop is ultra busy and has a backlog it may take a little bit for him to get to your tank. I had to wait like 2 hours for some nitrox blends in Marathon key last month! Their tank dude was vipping some tanks ahead of me.

Over a week? I'd say they forgot about you or something.

This is a PST LP tank for sure. it was sold as a 100, but I am going to assume is a PST LP95

I would concern me, as far as doing future business with that shop that:
A) they can't correctly identify a tank they are selling
B) they didn't meet their original committed timeframe for getting the visual done, which was plenty generous
C) now they want another week? (Can't remember off the top of my head)

If it were Me, I would call back and ask to speak to a manager and - very nicely btw - let him/her know that i had plans that required this tank and expected it when it was originally promised, and can't wait for the new promised date, and how can he/she help resolve this issue for me? And then I would be silent. No one likes silence, so the manager will keep trying to fill it. Until the manager gets to today or tomorrow as the answer, i wouldn't say anything else, except maybe one "I understand, but I have plans and I was counting on your shop's commitment".

That is how *i* would play it. And it would be true, even if my plans were simply to look at the tank lovingly and kiss it all over ;-)

Let us know what you do!

I dont plan on going back there. Its nice and close to work, but there is an LDS near my house that has treated me well up to this point.

I basically did a lot of what you mentioned about the complaining, however the response was along the lines of "guy who does the tanks isn't here and isn't back till Wednesday, nothing can be done till then". I will be very upset (and a bit shocked after letting them know how disappointed i was) if the tank isnt done Wednesday.

Hopefully it was just an oversight and the tank was sitting in the corner unnoticed for their part. This is largely why I havent named the shop in the posts, but depending on how tomorrow goes I very well may end up becoming very vocal about letting people know who they are. I am actually planning on diving after work tomorrow so I will probably insist they knock the price of a tank rental off the cost if its not done for then.

$170 for a steel LP100 with a bit over 3 years left on the Hydro+ and the VIS (if they ever get to it) included. Is that a decent deal?

If the tank is in great shape, it's a good price, a new one would cost at least twice as much. If you're lucky, it is a hot-dipped galvanized steel tank, those sell for a premium in the used tank market.
