This is a question about the John Bennett that set the OC scuba depth record of 305 meters:
A Journey To 308 Metres - The Deepest Open Circuit Scuba Dive Ever
When reading the above story and other articles about JB, one this struck me as strange. The man has only been past 155m six times before setting out to set the 305m record.
Is it just me or is that just not enough truly "deep" dives for someone to then go and dive to > 1,000 ft?! It seems insane to me. I understand that the six dives below 155m may have all been > 200m, but still - six dives seems like not enough time to practise, learn, acclimatise, test gear at those extreme depths, prepare psychologically, etc.
Am I just missing something? Is six dives enough preparation?
