I wonder if PADI is going to put this as a check-off question on their medical form.
Do you think it is fair for them to ask?

Lorellei,

May I offer you a hearty "WELCOME" to the Scubaboard?

I hope you will find this site both educational and entertaining and that you will become an active member.

I do hope you found a satisfactory to, what I believe to be, a very prudent question.

And I'd like to thank all of those members who gave mature and informative answers.

Sorry, and thanks - maybe you could remove the insult from post #1...?

Lorellei:
For whatever reason, there are women out there who feel they have to have breast implants to boost their low self esteem. (another discussion altogether) Anyway, a couple of them are going on a dive trip with me to Green Turtle Cay, Abaco in a few weeks. They are ashamed to ask so I told them I'd ask for them, Are there any kind of affects on fake breasts and diving?

As a woman, you REALLY should be aware that many "women out there" have had breast implants for reconstructive purposes. I was in my early 30's when I had breast cancer, and due to an increased risk of having another primary tumor in my breast during my lifetime, I chose to have a bilateral mastectomy after I finished chemotherapy. I had reconstructive surgery with saline implants.

Your friends are good to go. I have safely completed over 200+ dives since then in all kinds of water temperatures (ranging from upper 30's drysuit water to low 80's 3mm water) and depths to 140 fsw. I have never had any problems and have permission from my plastic surgeon to begin doing technical diving, including deep/decompression and mixed gas dives.

Very good point vetdiver.
