I think everybody starts with some sort of discomfort. as sugested getting an extra session or 2 with your instructor will help tons. also, once you start practicing your skills you will start to see how really easy it is and you will become more comfortable. as for open water, there is way to much cool stuff to be looking at to be nervouse!

I am pretty new to this sport, but had a similar problem my first time under on a regulator. I had been a competitive swimmer my entire life and was as comfortable in the water as on land. I actually think this worked against me at first as having spent so much time in the water there were certain things that I new to be true, the most relevant of which was that if I inhale underwater I will get a lungful of water. It seemed so unnatural that I had a hard time with it. I was able to initially get down, but the longer I was there the more my brain was telling me this is wrong. By taking some time away from the big group and just sitting on the bottom relaxing and taking it all in my head got used to the idea and my generally comfort level came back. Take it slow, this is normal and should pass in time.
