After all of those posts are you ready for a QUICK FIX? You have to post here again if this works pls.....Every morning/night when you take a shower, close your eyes and look into the shower nozzel so that the water is hitting you directly in the face for a good solid 2 minutes. Don't hold your breath, breath through the water hitting you in the face. IF this does not work I will eat my C-Card on video and post it her for all to see.

:rofl3: Thanks for the tip. I'm wondering what it'll take to get you to eat your card on video and post it anyway. I'll give it a try. I'll try anything once sometimes twice just to be sure.

The problem is I'm the kind of guy that would say it didn't work just to see you eat your card.:eyebrow:

Wow, I have seen a lot of suggestions here with regards to anxiety but this may very well be the most unique and at the same time the most accessible (as in this is something anyone can do). Heck, I'll be doing this in the morning just to try it out. This may very well be pure genious. Now, who did you learn it from. :)

I'm still a newbie, but I went through the same thing when I went to do my OW. Everything else I was fine on. We had about a 50 yard surface swim and I was not in great shape. The farther I went the worse it got. I finally realized it was a combination of breathing hard from being out of shape and being confined in a tight 7 mil(Central Illinois diving) and all that gear. I finally would force myself to focus on what I would see underwater the entire time I was swimming out to the descent point and I took my time getting out there. It worked for me.

:D Thrilled to be diving!!!

What you are experiencing, just about everyone else has experienced, just to a different degree, and is quite normal. If you really think about it, its kinda against all our natural instrincts to go underwater and breathe. This should become more natural over time, and that anxiety should get less and less, but remember a little bit of anxiety is always a good thing to have

The more comfortable you become the less anxiety you will experience in the long run. As you become more comfortable you will find the you will begin to shed more weight.

I think you will find some useful information and exercises to help you learn to control your anxiety at my website.

Alright WesTexDiver, I had my last pool session last night. I was entirely relaxed and confident from the beginning. I had a great time, a lot of fun, and I used about half as much air as I did last week. I have to admit that your shower trick helped. I get to do my OW dives this weekend and, I feel confident that I can do them without any problems.

Thanks everybody for the tips and reassurance. It was a big help.

Although I never experienced the problems that you had, I can not take credit for this trick. My instructor uses it to "cure" people with anxiety problems. I have never seen a case where it did not work, hence my somewhat unique proposition. I only with that more instructors knew of this little trick, I am just very thankful to have such an accomplished and experienced instructor training me.
