soonerwink,

There was not a known specific malfunction with the pressure sensors. Suunto diving computers are precise instruments and endure much abuse. These computers are used in a variety of different environments, and issues are bound to be encountered. The computers that experience(d) problems with the pressure sensors and are within warranty (will be/have been) replaced at no cost, which is why there was not a recall.

undrwater,

I am sorry for the issues that you have experienced with your Suunto diving computers. Unfortunately, by purchasing these units second hand you do not recieve any kind of warranty.

I don't expect one. I was fully aware when I received them, they were "as is".

When you purchase a Suunto dive computer from an authorized dealer in the US, you receive a 5 year pro-rated warranty.

All of these computers were purchased from authorized dealers in the US (specifically Pacific Wilderness in San Pedro, CA). The owners have all been friends and buddies of mine, and take good care of their equipment.

The last trade in program ended on July 31st, but keep checking because there are always new programs.

I will definitely keep checking. If you could, can you also post here if a new program starts? Those who have posted are "subscribed" to this thread and might be interested.

Suunto has launched the new D-series computers (D4i,D6i,D9tx) which have been redesigned from the previous version D-series. The pressure sensor malfunctions have been corrected with the new model lineup.

This is good to hear. Forgive me if I remain wary.

Again I apologize for the malfunctions that you have encountered, and assure you that Suunto is constantly working to correct any issues.

I appreciate the apology, and humbly ask that you pass on to the powers-that-be that beyond a verbal or written apology, some form of redress (such as aforementioned trade-in) would go a long way in repairing the damaged image Suunto has created amongst the avid diving community.

I don't ask for something for nothing. If I can trade in my malfunctioning computer(s) for a significant discount on a new one, we can all win. I'm glad you're here, Chris, but as we say, actions speak louder than words.

Best Regards,
Russell Dwiggins

Hi Chris

I have a D4 computer that I bought new while on holiday in Japan in June 2011. I have logged about 45 dives on it to date. After diving it is always soaked in fresh water.

On my last two weekends of diving I have had some issues.

1) First dive last weekend all appeared ok during the dive. When I was looking at the log after surfacing however, the time and date were incorrect. Date had changed back to April 2007. So I reset the time and date and the second dive was no apparant problem. When I got home, the first dive downloaded to MacDive with the April 2007 date. Second dive info downloaded ok but the logbook on the D4 did not show the second dive and the info on the first dive shows no max depth and a dive time of 749 minutes!

2) Yesterday, first dive was no issue. Toward the end of the second dive though while still underwater the dive time had reset and then when I surfaced the time and date were once again incorrect. Date had gone to 15 April 2007 once again. I reset date and time again but this time when I downloaded the dives, the second dive was gone completely and the D4 logbook has not recorded either dive. No fly warning was non existent also.

This is obviously concerning!

I have my warranty card from the Japanese retailer however I live in Australia.

Is there anything I can do (e.g. dirty contacts)?

Will repairs/replacement for these problems be covered under warranty?

Can I send this to an Australian dealer for repair/replacement?

If so, can you provide contact details of dealer?

Thanks.

Winf.

Winf,

Your D4 will need to be sent in to an authorized Suunto service center for a waranty adjustment that needs to be made to correct the resetting issue that is occuring. As long as the store in Japan is an authorized Suunto dealer and you have a copy of your purchase reciept, then the repair will be no charge to you. Since you purchase the unit in 2011, the computer is still under the 2 year warranty. Follow the link provided to locate the the Suunto service center that is most convenient for you http://www.suunto.com/us/en/support/repair-services/Service-Center-Locator

Archiebald,
The problem that you are experiencing was fixed last week with a new DM4 version. You should clear browser download folder because it could have an incorrect version of the setup.exe and gtk-sharp-2.12.10.win32.msi files. Then download DM4 again from the Movescount.com - Powered by Suunto page.
Br & safe diving,
Chris from Suunto

It does not work

maszeri,

Did you download Dive Manager 4 from the Suunto website? Just checking all of the bases, did you make sure you downloaded the DM4 version for windows?

Thanks,
Chris from Suunto

First of all i want to say that i am very pleased whith my D6 device which is by far the best diving computer i ever had.
BUT, i am really angry about your DM4 software. I don't understand the point of making it impossible to manage your dives offline.
As many others divers, i usely dive in far places where there is no internet connection so how can i manage my dive (name of the places, buddies, photos...). Don't tell me that i could go back to DM3 because i have a mac and there is no DM3 for mac :-(
From what i read on internet , there have been a lot of complains about this feature and Suunto still hasn't shown any concern.
This DM4 is total nonsense for divers ! Pease, do something!

Chris, I have an older Vyper set for Metric with no user option to change to Imperial, what are my options? Thanks in advance for the reply...fyi, counting this Vyper we have 3 Suunto computers, one is a D6i and the other an older Vyper with Imperial units.
