it is so unfortunate that people like PROMOCOP use this forum, SCUBA DIVING FORUM!!!! to express they POV on issues other than SCUBA DIVING and in this case and thread Puerto Vallarta diving conditions, recommendations and the likes.
On the other hand to generalize that all Mexico is not safe will be like saying that we should not go to LA because the gangs they have there, yes they have killings all the weeks, and what about Miami? Again drug related, and what about NY? and what about Detroit?
Or using the same logic used by PROMOCOP then you should not send your kids to the school in the US because there are shootings in the schools, and there are shootings at Universities, are those unfortunate shootings a sign that going to the University is not safe, going to a highschool is not safe? Does that mean that the US government is not in control?
Yes, Mexico as a country we are having a hard time with druglords, and yes there are some places were you will find trouble but you can not say that the whole country is under gunfire (ironically must of the guns used by drug cartels come from the US, and 90% of the drug trade that cause all these unfortunate situation is going to the US, consumption that by the way keeps increasing!) is like saying that all americans are drug consumers when is not like that, like in all countries there are good people and bad people, in my experience divers from wherever the country are mostly very nice people!
An you should also listen to your own homeland security statements to the US Senate last week saying that there is a big issue with US border patrol and US customs agents being corrupt why? because they are humans and like easy money like in the rest of the world
It is not a matter of nationalities or even countries is a matter of human values no matter of citizenship, if only more people could find excitement in diving as must of us the participants in SB do, then the less dependency on drugs across the world.
Lets keep this thread about exciting diving in Vallarta and forget about all the bad news across the world.

A ScubaBoard Staff Message...

A name calling post was removed and some others that quoted it cleaned up.

I dove on Saturday at los Arcos with Natalia and Diana in preparation for the ongoing survey project of the area.

We did not dive deeper than 40 feet both at the moorings and close to Bajo del Cristo. During the first dive we could feel a thermocline at around 28 to 30 feet and I began to suspect cold water was finally here to stay.

During the second dive we stayed in an area with a max depth of 40 feet and practiced the survey technique for about 75 min. The thermocline was at 35 feet and it felt cold !! That day it was 71/72 F under the first thermocline and 74/75 in the shallows. We all came up shivering a bit !!

The reports for Sunday from several divers diving Majahuitas/Arcos and today from los Arcos according to Ramses, mention a temperature of 68/67 F under the thermocline which has varied from 45 to 60 feet of depth. Great viz under the thermocline.

So, it is time for 5 to 7 mm wetsuits and hood for recreational level dives and dry suits for technical dives. This water should have arrived back in December/January , I guess the effects of El Niño are finally diminishing for good. We should be seeing more and more nudibranchs everyday as well as colder /deeper water fish such as Popeye Catalufa, frog fish,... Water will have good visibility under the thermocline which creates a very nice scene with the green algae bloom on top of a crystal clear colder environment. Best to carry a light.

Happy diving !

My brother and I completed our AOW with PVscuba in Feb of 2010. Alex and his crew were GREAT! Natalia and Ramsis were awesome instructors, very knowledgable and did everything in their power to make sure everyone on the boat had a great dive. I would recommend them to anyone going to PV!!

We just had a small earthquake in Nuevo Vallarta, felt weird since we have very unstable soil (right beside the canal) all mud terrain.

Los Arcos today ,

Above the thermocline 77 F, viz from 20 to 30 ft.

Under the thermocline much cooler and better viz (can't say exacly as we stayed above it the whole time today doing survey training).

Lots and lots of shooling and reef fish at the Bajo del Cristo area!!

How common are earthquakes there? It seems that the whole pacific coast line is having them this month.

Well this area is part of the ring of fire around the Pacific. I dont remember when was the last time there was one, but there has not been a destructive one in many years.

Just wanted to say thanks to Alex and crew at PV Scuba. I did a total of 6 dives over three days and each one was a pleasure, not to mention that we saw a giant pacific manta and 3 octopi. The instructors are top notch and allow divers to explore on their own, but also keep a watchful eye in case of unforeseen problems. Overall I would rate my experience as a 10 out of 10. I will recommend you highly to my friends and dive club 'Northshore Frogmen'.

Thanks again, Jes

Jes,

Can you tell us more about the conditions in order to enrich this thread ??,

Where did you dive, what was the viz, at what depth did you find the thermoclines, what other animals did you see, did you take images ??

Thanks,
