Just returned from vacation in PV. We used vallaratech dive shop. I'm an experienced diver and my daughter is newly Open Water certified. I would highly recommend vallaratech. The divemaster Nacho was great with my daughter. We dove Los Arcos and Islas Marrrietas the viz was about 40' and the water temp was 88. A great dive for both of us

Great conditions at Chimo today !

88-87 F the first 50 ft , and 60 to 70 ft viz.

Cooler, good visibility water at depth.

No surge and no current !!

It is time to enjoy summer diving conditions in the bay !!

Chimo, Morro and Marietas have had amazing summer conditions some days (excellent visibility, very little current and no surge) and other days the visibility has been reduced somewhat and a bit cooler. Temperatures in the first 20 feet have been close to 90 F and around 82-86 F at depth. Rain in the area for this time of the year has been lower than average so the Ameca river ouflow has been much less than past years.

Arcos has had very good viz some days , especially under 30-40 ft during the ongoing weekend work for the surveying project, but just OK (30-40 feet or so) during the Cislunar-Poseidon MK IV recreational rebreather instructor training days.

Here is a short clip from the 65 foot rock/pinnacle at the edge of the wall during the surveying work. (great viz and the schooling big eye jacks were at their best !!)

YouTube - Arcos ago09

Majahuitas has been very nice too, with lots of turtles, garden eels, reef fish.. but by this time of the year the acuatic plants along the coast to the south west are almost gone due to the warm water.

Chimo has had some nice manta sightings as well as lots of fish (reef and pelagic), turtles, spotted eagle rays, …

Here are a few images from all of this activity during August (CisLunar- Poseidon rebreathers, surveying project, exploration scootering, fun diving, teaching ..)

This is still the rainy season.

It is raining at night or in the afternoon mostly.

It is hot and humid right now but we have had some cloudy days when the temperatures stay a little cooler.

Last week some friends of mine dove Corbeteña on Saturday . On Sunday we went back for the first and second dives, later did a third dive in the Morro cave and then a scooter dive around the area.

Visibility out there was very good both days for Corbeteña and Sequial but was reduced at el Morro . We did some very nice scooter dives all around the base of the Corbeteña rock and out to the west into the Sequial area. We saw some nice schools of pellagic fish , tons of the usual trigger fish and large aggregations of King Angels. But the highlight was a group of several traveling Orcas that were seen on the surface on Saturday. Here are a few images.

Water temps were around 84 to 88 F, some surge from the south on Sunday due to hurricane Jimena making its way north. Very little curent both days.

Here is also a very interesting article about the El Niño event we are having in the Pacific this year

Happy diving from Ensenada / San Diego !!

We´re having a fantastic dive season this year. There´s been little rain and so our viz has been much better than previous years. Marietas, Los Arcos, Majahuitas... all with clear water and lots of marine-life activity.

take advantage of the great conditions and come diving to Puerto Vallarta

see you here...

Alex from PVScuba

Hoping to dive Corbeteña and Sequial on Saturday,

Will post later about the conditions and special sightings.

This is an image taken there a few weeks ago

On Saturday there was very good visibility at Corbeteña (around 100 ft) . When we got to the area there was some surge coming from the southwest and wind was still blowing from land. First dive was all around the rock beginning on the eastern side (the deeper side). Most of the fish were concentrated in the north west as this is where the current came from. Water temperature was a balmy 85 to 88 F.

Aside from the usual reef fish there were some large gropus pellagic fish such as Milk fish ( Chanos chanos), Big eye Jack (Caranx sexfasciatus) and Machete (Elops affinis) also a few Rainbow Runner (Elagatis bipinnulata).

The second dive was done on the Sequial side of Corbeteña which is where the fish were. Current was not so strong anymore and the surge had calmed down. The wind had turned at this time and it was blowing moderately from the north west as it normally does during the day

Sunday at el Morro the viz was a little less than Saturday, also with surge from the south in the morning. First dive was at the south eastern side (deeper part of the rock ) and through the 90 ft deep cavern to the shallower side . This is also the side where the current was coming from so all of the north area was full of fish.

Second dive was at the Morrito AKA La Canilla. The dive was excellent with large amounts of reef fish to see and we had the clicking of some very close by dolphins towards the end of the dive YouTube - Rebreather & Scooter diving in Puerto Vallarta

The underwater scennery in this area is amazing as some of the boulders are incredibly large, sometimes forming swim throughs or caverns as they lie on top of each other.

Here are a few images of these summer conditions.
