Just got a report in from a friend who dove Chimo on Sunday,

Really nice conditions also, very similar to Majahuitas but with all the fish life that Chimo is famous for !!

Lots of turtles too !

Another friend (Enrique) dove Corbetaña and Morro on Sunday,

He reports little current and small swell. Viz was very good at Morro and not so good at Corbeteña. Large schools of the usual Jacks and Bonito (see image below sent by Enrique). Water temp was around 86 F, as you can probably guess from the lack of neoprene in the photo !!

Here is a great new selection of UW images from the last years of diving the bay,

Puerto Vallarta highlights - a set on Flickr

Email Alicia to dive Chimo and Morro this coming weekend now that the summer conditions are just right !!

Still pending on the images from the small animal and Nudibranch Photo Safari from the 4th of July !!

Have some great dives !!

Both yesterday and today we dove with a giant Manta that came over to observe us. For several minutes it circled and hovered above us and even gave us a chance to rub it´s belly. A fantanstic experience! Apparently it was the same individual and both times at the "Bajo del Cristo" reef.

The rest of the reef was also very active. Large schools of surgeonfish, sargent majors, spadefish, butterflyfish, baloonfish, etc. were out and about, as were morays, angels, parrots, cornets, and hundreds of other species.

Water temperature was 89F / 32C max and 86F / 30C min. Viz yesterday around 50 ft. Today around 30ft.

Happy diving from Alex at PVScuba

Alex: I sure do wish that Manta had come around when I was there two weeks ago! That must have been awesome! I really enjoyed diving Los Arcos.

Well,

As promised here is another link to more images from the UW photo safari days around the 4th of July.

These are roughly 100 underwater images taken during 4 days of diving at:

• Los Arcos
• Majahuitas
• Conchas Chinas/Lindo Mar
• Punta Mismaloya
• Islas Marietas

It is really, really worth it to see the whole slide show !!

I hope you will agree with me that these images truly show the amazing beauty of some of the most astonishing small animals that live in the tropical eastern Pacific ( in this case the bay of Banderas /Puerto Vallarta)

hi alex,

rubbing a manta´s belly?? sounds very promising, here we haven´t seen a manta in 2 months...
looking forward meeting you guys in september and checking out what the diving and living is like in PV.

On Saturday Armando and myself dove and further explored Bajo de Potrerillos and its deep wall (with the scooter) and later dove Bajo de Torrecillas, both in the Chimo area (southern Bahia de Banderas, close to Cabo Corrientes).

First dive , conditions were very good at Potrerillos with visibility around 60 -70 ft and temperatures ranging from 84F at 130 ft to 87F at 20 ft. No current , no wind and no swell.

Lots of tropical eastern Pacific fish both reef and pellagic. Very nice schooling big eye jacks, parrot , creole and king angel fish !! The black coral colonies are very large in this area.

Second dive at Torrecillas , cooler water 82F at 100 ft and less visibility through the whole water column, around 40 ft. No current , no wind and no swell.

Many turtles , eagle rays, barber fish in their cleanings stations , and more ..

Sunday (the wind was blowing kind of strong from land, “Terral&#8221:wink:

First dive, Potrerillos had less visibility than the prior day 40-50 ft, temperature 81F at 130 ft and 87F in the shallows , strong wind from the east and a little choppy , mellow current from east to west.

No big eye jacks this time !! but a chevron manta was sighted on the surface (around 10 foot in wingspan).

Second dive, at los Arcos outer wall (the wind died off by then !!), Visibility around 40ft down to 80 ft and 20-30 ft all the way down to 130 ft, temp 82F at depth and 87F in the shallows, no current and no swell.

Went for a 27 minute scooter tour with Luis, an avid diver who visits often and who wanted to try the experience of "flying" along the wall to get the big picture of the whole area ( see picture below) . We went along the 70 to 80 foot curve following the wall from sand slope to sand slope and back (about 1300 ft each way).

Happy diving !!

Felices buceos !!

Alex,
Just wanted to thank you again for the professional and thorough instruction you gave our son this past week...... His Jr. Open Water Certification was a year long goal.
We were very pleased with the patients and talent Ramses exhibited with him. As divers we love being able take our son along now. The 6 dives we were with you demonstrated your professionalism and knowledge. We really did appreciate it.
Your facilities and boats are great, the diving was fun and you folks made it easy.
You have earned our repeat visits when we come back.
Nice Job.
Neil, Terri & Jack from Seattle

p.s. Tell Ramses we found the brown snake in our fish identification book.
