I was just wondering if there are any public pools that will let me test out some gear.

Hi Andy. Hollywood Divers has equipment days in the pool from time to time. Jan 9 is a Halcyon Cinch System try out day. Give the shop a call 323 969 9800.

In So Cal, if ya buy a little gear, or make friends, Dive'n'Surf Shop (Redondo Bch.) has a heated pool, Pacific Wilderness Dive Shop (San Pedro) has a ocean temp pool. I prefer the first one...

When I was in Bakersfield, I took my new gears (or familiarize my gears as loaners to other divers) to the local college swimming pool for trying out.
Eco Dive Center uses a local pool "Culver City Plunge" 8-10AM on Saturday mornings (not this Saturday).

I use the Dive n Surf pool but its not deep. Also dry suit with no thermals is workable but the pool is warm. I would prefer a deeper pool/Culver City.

The Glendale YMCA is a possibility. I've gone there and done drills in the middle of winter when storms have kept me out of the ocean for a couple months.
Call Sharkys Welcome to Sharkys Eco Diving in LaVerne. He has pool days from time to time.
