i'm looking at getting used steel tanks. i found 2 used pst steel 120s for 450 bucks
so two questions. is that a ok or good deal ? they both have new hydro and vip

if i get these tanks i would need to get them shipped from the usa to canada. the quote the seller got was $200. i dont think i really want to pay 650 for these tanks

does anyone know the cheapest way to ship tanks from the usa to canada??

Not worth it in my opinion. Including shipping, your cost is approaching the price for two new HP steel tanks.

Exercise a little patience, and in time a used HP steel tank will come up for sale in an area near you. If you want to get a good deal, you have to be willing to pass on a bunch of crappy deals. Happy hunting...

Between $100-200 is about correct. Plus you will have to get them a visual since they will be empty. New tanks should run about $300 - 400 each.

So you could buy two new tanks local for $600 - 800.

Or you can spend $650 for two used tanks.

Cheapest freight cost I know of is Yellow Freight, but I do not know if they do Canada but they do deliver residential. Also if they deliver there has to be someone there to unload the item, their drivers do not touch the shipment.

Me I would check local purchase options. There is always someone in or around that is selling stuff.

Good Luck.

Ewww, there was hope until you went international.

In addition to what you note the VIP will probably need to be repeated locally since I'd expect the cylinders to arrive depressurized with the valves likely removed.

Being freshly hydro'd as well I would not expect a dispute on the VIP but you never know.

What is the going rate locally for the X series equivalent? That's the yardstick.

Pete

Are tanks not allowed to be shipped with valves? I've already purchased one tank online and it was delivered by UPS with a valve installed and a small amount of air.

This is the info on shipping for the tank I just won yesterday on ebay.....

"Tank ships with valve installed, with a small amount of positive pressure as allowed by DOT regulations, to keep moisture and contaminants out and the VIP valid."

well so far the best price i can find in vancouver is about $529 for a Worthington X-Series 119
so two of these would be over $1100 with tax :-(
i guess i could hold off but the longer i hold off the longer im not diving
i could rent tanks but its like tossing money if you know your going to buy them

Am I missing something here?

Why not get a cheaper used or new AL80? That should tie you over until you find a reasonably priced HP steel tank.

Alternatively, make some dive friends by joining a dive club. I know tech divers who have a garage full of tanks. Many would allow a newer diver to borrow a HP steel for a little while.
