The summer draws close and the drysuit starts to feel a bit hot and sticky. It's about time to get involved in more airy pursuits. Cycling should be an appropriate choice. I am a bit concerned though, as cycling is very dangerous (think of slippery conditions, darkness, traffic, terrain, snow, cargo...) and many get severely injured - even killed. Yet, there is no certification agency. Could you then, fellow divers, please help me device a training system (certification cards) for the to be founded Professional Association of Cycling Instructors, PACI?

RULES :catherine:
1. Copy/paste an old post and edit. Alternatively, just comment.
2. Add new certifications or improve the old ones. Remove bad ones.
3. Try to present the full curriculum in whole. Incremental changes are confusing.
4. You are specifically requested to compare the curriculum to those of other cycling associations
5. Discussion about safety, including pre-cycling checks, safety drills, SOP:s, and hand signals is welcome
6. Remember - it is our duty to make the wild and uncontrolled cycling scene safer
7. All changes must be accompanied by praise of the old ruling. You must not publicly criticize PACI. Good only becomes better.
8. Rule 3. is exempted when commenting.
9. Rule 8 shall not be applied when commenting certifications.
10. Rule 9 is optional on fridays.
11. No scooters, such as Harley-Davidson, shall be discussed.
12. These rules are subject to change (by all).
13. All means the original poster.

Ok, let's start.

We all know that the training curriculum comprises junior certs, adult certs, specialities, professional certs and finally the technical cycling certs that actually require some skill.

I shall start this by listing
- PACI junior cyclist: capable of using a tricycle safely in an enclosed yard
- PACI advanced junior cyclist: capable of using a childrens bicycle with training wheels safely in an enclosed yard
- PACI junior rescue cyclist: has the skills and the knowledge of a junior cyclist and is able to blow on a scratch to alleviate pain

... fast forward...

Cycling specilities
- PACI night cyclist: has the skills of a PACI advanced cyclist, and has been trained to use refective clothing and a lantern. Paved quiet roads only.

... fast forward ...

- PACI technical full congestion cyclist: This cyclist is fully capable of safe cycling in heavy traffic, including multi lane roads and trucks. Unlimited traffic lights.

* PACI self-reliant cyclist
"Although most bicycle rides are made with a buddy, an experienced cyclist may want or need to make rides without a partner. During the Self-Reliant cyclist course, you learn about potential risks of bicycling alone and the value of equipment redundancy and necessary back-up gear. During three bicycle rides, you develop skills for self-reliance and independence, while becoming a stronger partner in a bicycle pair or team."
