I could see how someone who does not have issues equalizing may feel this is a placebo, but that is just not true. There is a noticeable affect from having air around your ears and not water. For those who have difficulty equalizing, this mask is worth a shot. It helped me tremendously.

I also have the hood as I mentioned. I completely agree with gert7to3 - the skirt is way too small. However, considering I do most of my dives in 40-50 (F) water, I have opted to keep the additional layer of neoprene provided by the IST pro-ear hood. I am just going to remove the skirt from an old hood and use the material to lengthen the pro-ear hood's skirt.

I have used one of these masks & hoods for some time now and swear by it. Just my tenpennorth!

Basically there are 2 cases about our discussion of ProEar. All serious users praise ProEar diving mask as musch as they can, while all non-users doubt about the equalization function of ProEar. Under either cases, I think ProEar is worth to try simply because it can keep your ears dry. Once you get used to it, you will find it as an amazing gift from God at the beginning of this century. Ear problems are most common problems among divers. ProEar provides us with a comprehensive solution of all kinds of ear problems. Although there are still some improvements to be made, the ear protection functions are obvious. That is why we suggest all divers change to use ProEar as earlier as possible to avoid any potential ear problem during diving trips.

I have a friend who has tried scuba and cannot equalize below twelve feet; those of you who have used this mask, do you think it might be worthwhile for him to try? Thanks.

simmonsjr, here's a link to a longish video about equalization. It may help your friend. Some people just can't equalize. Equalization is a learned technique. A Pro Ear mask may be helpful, but it is not a magical solution.

Excellent video! Actually some of the methods and theories mentioned in this video explained why ProEar helps ear equalization.

Our test proves that the Frenzel Maneuver introduced by Dr. Kay is not realistic with a mouthpiece in the mouth. It is very easy to do without a mouthpiece. But once you put mouthpiece into your mouth and get into water, it is very hard to do it. So ProEar is more effective to protect diver's year and help divers to do equalization.

I bought a Pro Ear Mask due to 7 visits to specialists this year over my ears. I had several new pieces of gear in July, so was not patient enough to get used to this mask and of course, ended up with major problems that trip.

I just got back from some daily dives in Galapagos to get used to the mask followed by a live-aboard up to Wolf & Darwin and am happy to report that, although it takes a bit to get used to it (for me, about 7 dives) and to learn how to put it on without hair around the ears breaking the seal (especially in a 7mm wetsuit sitting on a panga with everyone waiting for you), it sure served its purpose! This was the first time this year I did not have problem diving. And the only 2 months this year I haven't been diving were due to ear problems.

So I am thrilled with the mask from my ear perspective! Even when the current was causing my regulator hose to flutter like crazy, the mask stayed put. I did manage to clear the ear cups underwater. I finally realized that, like the mask part, a bit of water had seeped in, so when I turned my head, that cool water would run into my ear making it seem like the ear cups had flooded, but that hadn't. My buddy would check for me upon occasion. I am so happy to be able to do 4 dives instead of limiting myself to 2 the way I did before. Did not leave feeling like I was walking around with water clogging my ears for 2-3 weeks, in fact, not at all. I love the way the strap sits very low on the head in back. I find this much more comfortable than a regular mask. Wish I were as happy with the mask part of the mask.

I bought the Panorama model and do not recommend it. Those extra panes are made of plastic and merely distract, not extend the field of view. I will be buying another one this week in hopes of liking it better. I also want try to ProPlugs.

I went the Pro-Plugs then Pro-Ear mask route. I found if you use Pro-Plugs the Pro-Ear mask's earcups will often dislodge the Pro-Plugs. Unless you are diving with a perforated eardrum (and you probably shouldn't be diving at all) you ought not need the Pro-Plugs in addition to the mask.

Frankly, I have wondered about cutting away the base of the tube mounts from the eye chamber of a Pro-Ear mask then gluing them into a better fitting wide angle mask and transferring the earcups to the better mask. Haven't had the guts to attempt this as it would be up to a $250.00+ DIY experiment. Success would be one mask destroyed and one mask modified. Failure would be two masks destroyed and another new mask replacement.

I also managed to break one of the plastic frames around one of my Pro-Ear mask's ear cups. I was able to stabilize it with silicone tape and continued diving with the repair.
