Problem with Mako BAM06-E3 Compressor

I recently bought a used mako compressor. It was from a fire department they upgraded about five year ago so it has been sitting a while. The problem is that it will not build pressure. i get about 30 psi in the 1st stage and about 60 in the second. This is my first compressor so not to sure in what I should be looking for. It runs good has no knocks or other strange noises. Any one have any ideas what to look at or where i can get a service manual or even a part diagram for this compressor. Thanks
 
I'll bet the auto-drain pistons are stuck and need to be replaced. I deal with Mako units on a daily basis and have seen this with units that have sat for 6 months.

Hi HarleyD,

I agree with Craig. Sounds like an auto drain issue. It could be leaking from a piston that is stuck open. If not, check the final piston, make sure the pin moves up and down.

80% sure its your Auto Drain Piston, but let me know what you find.

I may be able to provide a parts diagram, let me know what the serial number or model number is.

Makos also have a little lever on the ADS solinoid that if in the wrong position will dump continually, some units also have a little pilot air valve that will do the same thing. Check to make sure that this is closed and the little red lever is tried in both posistions.

Actually, that "lever" is to test the solenoid if you suspect it isn't working. In the normal position, it allows the air to vent at the #3 port on the soleniod during a drain cycle. In the "bypass mode, it does not allow the solenoid to vent. If I have a machine that isn't building pressure, the first thing I do is move that lever to "bypass". If the pressure then builds, I know the solenoid is the problem. It either isn't getting power (which could point to the drain timer) or there is a mechanical problem. If putting the lever in "bypass" does nothing, then the pistons are the most likely culprit.

The compressor is model # Mako BAM06-E3. Do you have access to parts? I will be needing oil, oil filter and air filter. If you could help that would be great.

Thanks for the info. We do manufacture and carry these items to fit many major hi psi compressor brands. It sounds like your block is a Bauer Mariner, but it is hard to say. This is a Mako package, which at one time used Bauer blocks, but has since switched. So, this could be the old Mako Bauer block, or their new style block. The easy way to confirm it is for you to provide the serial number.

Please either email me pictures of the block to gkaplan@lawrence-factor.com or provide the serial number. Also, the block number hand stamped on the crankcase will help. looks like 82/1234/03.

A BAM06 either has a Reavell 5406 or 5407 block depending on model year.
