This board is so cool except that I already have enough trouble making up my mind !!!
Thanks to all for the great info. I realize one mans paradise may be anothers disaster. We're probably heading to Roatan (West Beach) in March '07 now that Delta goes there direct from ATL but still intrigued by the beauty of Saba & St Vincents. Loved GC but to expensive, been to Coz 3 times, still considering Grand Turk (short boat rides). I'm more interested is larger marine life for this trip. Saba looks beautiful & peaceful. Wife has had enough shore diving (Curacao)...says its too much work.
Keep the thoughts & idea coming....

Although Saba is not an easy place to get to, it does have fantastic diving. Even tho it's in a Marine Park we didn't see that many big fish except at certain sites like Diamond Rock and Shark's Shoal. To make the wife happy, spend a few days on St. Martin's French Side for fantastic food and white sandy beaches. We took the ferry SXM to Saba and back. Been there 4 times. A great place. Try Saba Deep. Have fun.

I've never been to Roatan, Saba or St. Vincent, but if believe all the reports, they are not known for larger marine life.

I love St Vincent, but it's true you won't see big stuff, at least not to the south. I did see a huge school of baracuda once but it was on a more northerly site not dove much (and almost missed them because we were looking at the seahorses.)

Not true! Roatan has it's share of manta rays and whale sharks in the right time of year.

Saba is very laid back and great diving just never seen any real big critters when I went.

Check my St. Martin and Saba trip report from last year. Strongly recommend Saba Deep if you do go there - the "Mikes" are great! You won't see much 'huge' stuff at Saba but the bottom flora and smaller fish schools are well worth it. We did see a couple of cruising sharks and a big wahoo as we got down to the pinnacles though.

I haven't been to the other locales so can't comment about them. Oh, if you DO go to Saba I'd recommend the plane vs. the ferry, BTW. Ferry can be a rough ride and you won't arrive the first day in time to do the deeper dive. Plane's a low alt twin Otter so its flyable after doing 3 dives your last day if you want, and that short runway landing is fun (think of the island as an only slightly oversized aircraft carrier...)
