Speedo?? Speedo????? We need to dive together and soon!!!

LOL, well that blow dry depends on your size. I've you're a big guy I might get a bit winded!

I'll have to shoot a pick of the towel to post. I think that might torture Joe a bit. :)
I like that. But it's nothing too special, has dolphins on it. Joe really likes dolphins. :crafty:

LOL...roflmao...ROFLMAO.. well Princess I guess you have been had. My Speedo is a chammey towel. I wear a pair of jammers under my wet suit when I dive. Got tired of the wedgie

My pic is posted in "show me your faces SB". I am far from a big guy..6'3", 175 lbs, blue eyes, dish water blonde ( dirty minded blonde)...sounds like a personals doesn't it? If you blow hard enough I just might blow away.

So Joe has a thing against dolphins? Maybe he was tortured in the military.

pennypue:
He is a little slow isn't he?
I'm busting at the seams to talk about it. But I don't want to jump around with the story........Joe, come on......

(ok, enough of me being rough of Joe. He just finished his and PASSED his DiveCon. :dazzler1: )

First of all congrats JOE!!!

When are you going to get to the good part about meeting up with me....... and the part about how you would have had more fun if you would have went diving with Firebrand and I instead of going out on the 6 pack with the smelly divers?

Polly

Well, at the rate of his writing, it might even be longer before he has the trip report on the night dive at Lauderdale By The Sea. But I will let you in on a little secret.... it was good!

Saturday while the Princess was out snorkeling, I was out on one of the many reefs on a dive. While heading to the next reef I was talking to FireBrand and ScubaPolly (interesting that I could get a clear signal all the way out there and no roaming charges :eyebrow: ). I was making arrangements of the night dive with Fire and Princes and the late night pick up of Polly when she arrived at the airport (maybe I should look at being a business planner or something along those lines).

The second dive, I scrubbed due to the bad weather I saw rolling in on the horizon and secondly I was saving myself up for the night dive. While sitting and waiting for the two teams to return from their dive, it hit with sudden abandon. In the distance you could see the “wall of white” just moving in making the distant boats disappear as it approached (a pretty ominous sight if you ask me). Our boat captain (My1ocean, I did not find this out till the last day with Quessence) said it wouldn’t hit us, I think King Neptune heard him and caused it to come our way :11: . One team came up in the pouring rain with quizzical looks upon their faces as if saying, “what gives” :06: . The elderly couple came up after we spent some time trying to find their bubbles on the surface, pretty hard thing to do during a torrential downpour. Finally, we got site of their bubbles and kept a close eye on them there was a good current running that time. They finally get onboard, we begin to get our gear stowed away for a quick ride home and for me to link up with the Princess and Fire for our night dive.

We get back after a good 10-15 min ride back in, I run up and sign in for the night dive (saying a quick hello and how you doing to FireBrand). I make my way back down to the dock and have to move my gear off the boat I came in to a different boat so I could be diving with the Princess, FireBrand and a firefighter on vacation from Cincinnati. After all said and done I get to finally eat (I was famished), thank god for PB&J J! While eating I was the focal point of the ever so popular mascot of the Quessence dive op. After a few sad looks from her I relented, she got her PB&J amongst some other snacks (ok so I am a sucker for sad eyes, I think the Princess had a lot to do with this).

We head out to North North Dry Rocks for out night excursion in the deep blue (well not so deep, could be if you went the wrong way). We get our dive brief from another great boat captain Mike. It was nearly dusk when we entered the water and headed to the big sandy area hoping to catch a glimpse of the rays as they come to bed and eat for the night. To our dismay, they did not show up or give us that awesome sight that was word painted in our minds. We headed to the reef and began our many exploits for the night or as long as 3000psi would last us. The reef was alive that night; the critters that were not seen during the day were out in abundance. The lobsters were plenty numerous, coming out and waving hello and good-bye to us as we silently passed by with the occasional disturbance of our exhalations. We explore the reef keeping carefully well above it, I looked intently along the reef seeing the damage that had been done maybe that day or the day prior. I felt saddened to see numerous sea fans lying on the floor of the reef amongst other parts of the reef that was lying on the sand.

On our way back we headed back to the boat a group of juvenile jellyfish came by, an awesome site to see. They looked like stars in a dark moonless night, there was enough to play connect the dots with. Along the way, I spotted a big black circle on the reef to my surprise it was a sea urchin that was approximately 9 inches in width. The cool part was the long black thin spines with some grey ones in there. On our way back, we took a wrong turn and came to the wrong boat :o(the only 2 boats out there that night were from the same dive op, no worries). I go up and check and say hello, “Hey Mike you there, no this is Steve came the reply”. I said alrighty and duck back in after getting a bearing on the other boat (nobody said I was perfect). We head over, I was pushing 800 in my tank another 3 and I would be doing the surface swim back. We get back and joke about our wrong turn (do you think they could post a sign “go this way”?), and discuss all the really cool creatures that were out at night.

We get back to the dock and turn in the tanks and load up, off to pick up Polly after a quick shower and deciding on the plan to pick her up. We all decide to go, and then get something to eat after picking up our guest. That goes without a hitch well almost, it seems there are a lot of angry drivers that come out at night in Florida (I regret selling my pistol at times, only for protection). We arrive at the airport and pick up a weary passenger who is elected to ride with Fire so he can do his Q&A for TwoTours. We opt to go to the Waffle House in Key Largo for a late/early dinner breakfast (if we call breakfast and lunch brunch, what would we call dinner and breakfast?). While at the diner we had the pleasure of listening to one of Key Largo’s biggest players ROFLMAO. I try hard to keep a straight face when listening to his corny lines. If it were the gong show I would have had to ask for the biggest mallet to send him on his way. I mean how many guys us old 80’s music trivia to pick up girls? I could care less about the Humpty Dance and Vanilla Ice amongst others that were mentioned in his corny lines. If you’re hungry and need of a little laugh with your dirkast (dinner and breakfast combined), you can go to the Waffle House in Key Largo and enjoy!

The next day did not go as planned, I ended up with students finishing their OW’s and Princess was on another boat for another Spiegel dive. Unfortunately, there was a mix up and Fire could not get on that boat even though prior arrangements were made by him earlier that week to be on it. He and Polly go off on their own to dive the Spiegel, and to my surprise on their post dive exploits somebody did the dreaded “War Hammer” and not to mention getting covered by juvenile crabs from head to toe (My lips are sealed). Princess’s dive on the Spiegel did not happen due to the fact that the 2 who were diving with her decided at the last minute in the water to not dive after the first three went down. Not picking on them but, there are some circumstances that they did not dive it. I opted to have my Spiegel coin to be sent to TwoTours in Iraq.

(Note from the editor, unfortunately due to being exposed to water. The roll of film used on this excursion was unable to be developed. That means another dive will be done to get photos!)

The last day, we pack up and take Polly to Sea Camp way down in Key West. The road trip was fun; saw some really neat places to visit in the future. Sea Camp is an awesome set-up, going to get my resume put together for future employment there. After dropping her off a detour had to be made at the Ft. Lauderdale airport to drop off a passenger that had to be back to work the next day, we did not know this until that morning. Then off to Casa de Marvel’s for an impromptu dive well, I was told that there were 2 queens of the beach that love to instruct the proper ways of beach diving. Along the way we did a side stop and visited Down4Fun and Orlando Eric.

Upon being fashionably late, we gear up and receive instruction from no other than Scuba Jenny!!!! It was getting late so, we all got our lights (I stick an additional light in the Princess’s BC unknowing by her) and head out to the surf. It was an awesome feeling to be surrounded by 2 Queens and a Princess out to the reef. We reach the designated site by the dive flag bearer. We are then informed that visibility is not that good, the Princess and I look down and cheerfully exclaim, “just like quarry diving”(there are those who snicker at those who practice their skills in a quarry but, it comes in handy). The visibility was fine by me; I paired up with Marvel J, Princess with Jenny and started our fabulous reef excursion.

While exploring the reef, we are introduced to a Scorpion fish and large Angels that were in vast quantities along with Parrots. Then there she/he was, a sea turtle graced us with its appearance just lazing about the reef. It was photo shy, after a few pictures she/he decided it was time to move on and find a more peaceful area of the reef to rest. After a bit I noticed that my camera had come unclipped from my BC. I signal to Marvel and we head off back the way we came to find it. We get to the area where I took my last picture and look around (it then dawned on me DUH it’s positive buoyant!), I surface and look around and there it was a few fin kicks and I had it! I go back down and Marvel and I head back to where we were and the other two had moved on. We shoot an azimuth to the next reef and head off at warp factor 8! We get there and I start looking at the fire scallops tucked up in ledges along the reef amongst other wildlife. Marvel spotted another sea turtle off in the distance.

After a brief moment the other two reach us, this time we all stick together. There was so much life there on the reef (maybe Jenny can help out with what was there, for I have yet to begin memorizing aquatic life). We cruise around and find some lobsters hanging about and then another turtle (I don’t know if it was the same one that we initially happened upon). Mother Nature has battered the reef throughout, the past few hurricane seasons she is coming back though!

Alas, after checking and being at 1000 left we start heading back finding big hermit crabs and conchs along the way, amongst other surprise guests. Found some stuff that needed to be in waste cans and not the ocean floor. We were cruising along, I decided that I would stay and yes I shared air with Jenny near the end. In the darkness, my eyes spot something long and dark swimming up. Okay, yes my heart did skip a beat upon seeing the shadow. When we illuminated it with our lights, it was long and shinny with an up curved jaw, a Tarpon! It just looked at Marvel and us then headed out, then another one a couple sizes bigger swam up and eyeballed us. As it swam off, I followed it with my light till it disappeared. It came back, and hovered over Marvel all the way back to the beach till about 6fsw. It was truly an awesome dive, to exit the water with a full moon and nice surf and not being stung by Jellies!

Yeah, it was a most excellent dive. The orange glow of the moon rising over the ocean and the soft rippling sounds of surf meeting sand was mesmorizing.
Reef critters we saw: (digging out log book...) balloon fish, reef butterfly fish, townsand, queen, gray and french angelfish, porkfish, ocean surgeons, schoolmaster, tarpon, basket star, flamingo tongue, damselfish, turtle, eel, neon goby, french grunts, lobster...

Gotta do it again. I had a good time showing the buddies what I have to remind myself never to take for granted.. awwh, life in paradise.

The Ambush!!!!

The morning after the beach dive, the Princess and I decided to walk along the beach and then leave our hostess with the biggest heart a thank you note and gift. It was then decided that an ambush would be done, seeing that we were in the area! ScubaKevDm was on the hit list, after hearing all the rave reviews and mentioning that I would be in the area some time ago and an invite was open.

Upon receiving explicit directions from Jenny (thanks for not giving him a heads up), we arrived at our intended vic’s location. We dismount from Helga and cautiously move into position to spring the ambush. I elect to enter first as the number one man to make sure that the entry of the Princess would be unchallenged. There he was chatting with Henry and putting a puzzle together. It took a mere couple of seconds to register in his noggin that was invading his territory, a mere second upon seeing the Princess enter his humble work place. You could see the light bulb go off in his head (sorta like when I started to understand Spanish I after 4 years of taking it), I guess it was my Army T-shirt as well that was a give away as well.

He was like a child on Christmas running around the store looking for stuff and whatnot. It was a pleasure to meet him and make tentative plans for diving in late July; maybe we can get a re-enactment of the turtle dance. Even though it was a last minute plan, it was well worth the fun and camaraderie that was shared later that evening at Hurricane Alley. That is where we were introduced to what I would call the new United Nations (if only the real one could have fun the way we did that night, exchanging stories and learning about each other).

It was time to get back on the road again with one last individual to visit in the great tar heal state of NC the next day.
