I suspect 48" will bow out too much.
Not my experience... The only bow is the bungied octo is too long:

YMMV

7 ft hose no matter what for OW diving. Hose sticks for me are a pain in the thigh if it shifts. I just tuck it into the waist belt.
Braided hose on anything but a standard 28 is a pain in the butt. Even then I don't like them. They are floaty, tend to take a set, and can be kinked shut. Several instructors I know personally, as well as myself, don't allow them on regs in deep, wreck, cave, or other tech classes because they can kink shut.
Most of the braided mfgs also recommend replacing them every two years. I've got rubber hoses that are 4 times that and no issues with them.
Braided are also not friendly to drysuit neck seals and they tend to grab the hairs on the back of your neck if you loop the long hose.
The weight savings is a marketing gimmick. So you save a few ounces.
The braiding can also start to come undone if you are not careful and once that happens you get little sharp spikes sticking up.
I've yet to run into a valid good reason to move to braided even though I have tried them numerous times over the years as each iteration of them comes out.

Got it. Rubber 40” because I can’t justify 7 ft

I use these... they used to be a lot cheaper, like .60 I think.. Idk, I bought a bunch back when the world was still sane.

Can always 3D print the hose retainer just a fraction small so it's tight when it goes on too.

You're right, lots of options beside this though..

Has anyone who is around 5'2-5'3" tried both the 60" and 84" long hoses? Trying to figure out which would be best for my wife in the standard long hose configuration with a hose stick.
I'm 5'7" and I didn't like how the 60" hose hung out from my body when in proper trim. Went to a 84" hose and it was way too long. I was tucking a huge loop into my waistband, and it was too long to tuck around a hose stick. Sent it back and went with a 72" hose. Now all is right with the world. Just long enough to use a hose stick, it's tight to my body and works great. I also use a 19" necklaced secondary to eliminate any extra hose sticking out. This minimizes my profile in the water and eliminates any potential tangles.
Piranha has rubber hoses in all sizes and Randy is great to deal with.

5'8" here, and the "standard" 84-inch (7-ft) rubber hose routes comfortably for me and does not stick out when tucked under a canister or a zipper pocket. I started out with a 60-inch hose and felt the reg tugged uncomfortably at my mouth. At that point I could have tried adding an angled swivel fitting but decided to just go with the flow and try the 84-inch hose. And it worked perfectly. Admittedly, I have not tried a 72-inch hose, but since I perceive nothing negative about the 84-inch hose, I don't intend to experiement.

I also own a "streamlined OW" setup, with an angled swivel on a 40-inch hose. It feels fine, but switching between that on OW dive trips and the 84-inch configuration on cave trips feels a bit awkward, so I often end up just using the 84-inch for everything.

Open water single tank, 40" under the arm on a swivel. Anything else, I have a 7'. In sidemount it is stowed on my right bottle and on CCR it is still stowed on my right bottle. I only hog loop my 7' when doing BM doubles.
