I don't think you can beat $199, but look here for another great deal. Aluminum or steel, single (with bands) or double for <$400.

Willem

Actually, the divers-supply.com package does not come with tank bands or crotch strap. If you add the things golemgear.com is putting in its $390 AL package, they are comparable.

i have no affiliation with this company but this month at divers-supply.com you can get a dive rite backplate and harness plus a hog wing (single or double wing) for $199. that's a smoking deal.

Indeed it is! However, you need to add $55 for cam bands, $16 for the crotch strap and $8 for the SS plate (boy, that's cheap as an upgrade!) so a swimmable price might be $279.

Same price for the 58# doubles wing! Now that is a deal!

If I wasn't knee deep in BP/Ws, I would take a hard look at this one. Then I'd probably shake my head and buy another DSS.

yep, i was looking at it for doubles. all you'd need is the crotch strap so you are looking at $215 - sweeeet. even for the singles package, to get to $390 you'd have to add the platinum d-rings and the snow leopard webbing all of which are not DIR.

So as not to hijack this thread, is anyone willing to walk me through purchasing the proper setup of the Dive Rite for intro tech diving??

If so, please PM me!

I am still trying to digest a 27# lift. In what world is that normal? Perhaps for Hannah Montanna?

....so you wouldn't dive steel doubles 'wet' with 27# lift either ? ...unless I also had a pair of those Hanna Montana 'arm-band pool floaties' that is...... :)

27# can be adequate for a number of scenarios including warm water diving with an Al 80 tank. The wing only needs to compensate for 6# of air plus about 10# to get the diver's head out of the water. Otherwise, the diver is probably about neutral. I'm talking about T-shirt diving...

30# seems to be adequate for cold water diving with a 7/8mm wetsuit, 20# of lead, a 6# SS backplate and an HP-100 tank. Here, I'm counting on 6# of buoyancy from the compressed wetsuit at depth. Or I need to use up some of the air. No problem at the surface where the wetsuit provides plenty of buoyancy.

There's an interesting 'sticky' spreadsheet at the top of the Equipment->BCs forum that deals with the issue of BC lift requirements.

It's a matter of philosophy, but there may come a time when you want to become more buoyant, for example if you need to float a distressed diver on the surface while you solve a problem, or feel the need for a little extra altitude because of surface water conditions while waiting for the boat.
