+1 for more heat. Not enough heat frays over time. more heat at maybe a little touch up to the end and it's pretty bombproof. The pro hot cutters do it perfectly every time and in about 2 seconds.

They're pricey...This one is $250. But I found cheaper ones on eBay.

Yeah, don't buy your hot knife from the guys who make $500+ climbing ropes. Get the same from Amazon or eBay for like $20. Or, do like my friend Jamie and get a cheap $5 machette from Harbor Freight, heat it up with a propane torch, and use that as a hot knife.
