I went out to the coast today with the wife, kid and dog. We went to Portugese Beach.
The water was really clear for that section of coastline it seemed. I could see through the breaking waves and I also could see rocks underwater. The water was a beautiful emerald color.
I noted that the waves at Portugese Beach are very similar to Monastery with that steep gravel washing machine action and probably a drop off, but is no submarine canyon right off shore from Portugese Beach. I would imagine that the deepest you could find with a moderate surface swim would be 40 feet maybe.
After we walk back up to the car I decided to walk out to the point and I noticed a small rocky protected cove just South of the point and completely protected from the relentless pounding of the swell. I went down the little path that has been carved in by thousands of tourists and realized that this decent and acsent out of the entry/ exit point really wouldn't be that bad.
I think it needs to be dove. It looks like a great crab grabbing spot and may even house a few good size lings. There might even be the possibility of decent abs for a quick meat run.
Who wants to join me for an exploration dive.
Any takers?
How 'bout next weekend if the conditions are good?
