Snorkl,
If you like the Poseidon regs, go for it. I have the Xstream Deep and could not be more pleased, but I have only been in the water about 8 times with them so far. Also, Poseidon requires maintenance every 2 years instead of every year, so the service costs are about the same over a 2 year period (actually, about $30 less with poseidon in my area)

Shoot, I've fallen into the trap of thinking that what happens here happens throughout the world too... damn.

Here in Singapore Poseidon regs are really expensive for no apparent reason. I can get a full set of DS4/XTX50/ATX50 for bout the same price as a XTX100 but a Poseidon setup is nearly twice that and so's the servicing compared to an Apeks.

I've used Poseidon from a mate but personally I'm not a fan of them. Air delivery isn't an issue but they feel rather mechanical.

Irregular is right in that if you are able to get the best performing reg for the best available price, almost any reg is good.

I am new to scuba diving having just got my ow certificate. I am looking to buy a reg that will allow me go through any other courses without any issue (nitrox etc.) I am also looking to get an octopus as well. If i get a poseidon reg do i have to get a poseidon octopus as well. Money is not an issue. Just looking for the most versatility and quality.
Hello snorkl,

If money is not an object, then most likely you can afford to and will travel. In addition to the issue of which reg that will allow you to go through any other courses, you want a regulator that has a reputation for parts and service availability worldwide. Scuba Pro and AL most easily fit this bill.....also a reason to buy the same brand 1st, 2nd and octo.

Hopefully your LDS sells and services one of these two brands.
Personally, I am a Scuba Pro fan and have had my MK 10 for about 20 years with zero problems. Of course you are looking for something new, so have a look at the thread below for DA Aqumaster's excellent post.

Poseidons can be difficult to get serviced. But if you have a local shop with parts, tools and training it shouldn't be a big deal. Now, if you took your Porsche or BMW down to the corner garage and they didn't have the parts, tools or training,,,, you get the picture.

I love my Cyklons, join the cult.

I have poseidon Xstream Deep 90s on my back gas and a Deep on my deco bottle. All Poseidon can be O2 clean, the Deep, Duration and Deco only exist because of marketing reasons.

And the colors are nice when you go to get stuff out of your reg bag and you have to keep track of which ones are O2 clean, aferall last time I checked they all cost the same anyway.

I just bought my first Poseidon, used, a Cyklon 300 about two weeks ago. I have made two dives, but made the mistake of not getting serviced first. Tomorrow I am sending it off. I have heard good things about Poseidon for years, even back when I first got certified in 1979. I have owned a Scubapro G250/MK10, Seac Sub 1000 and a Tekna 2100B and this so far kinda reminds me of the Tekna as in a wet breather, though not as wet as the Tekna. Just wonder if the other Poseidon models are that way also? Another thing is the mechanical breathing and a little hard to get started on inhalation but after it get going that seems fine.
