I've been diving Poseidon's for over 20 years. Never had a problem. Deco dives and very deep cold dives in quarries and the great lakes. No they are not the easiest to breath (but they breath all the time even at depth you get used to it). Yes some new users get wet when clearing (it's the way you angle your head) Yes there are newer flasher models on the market. Yes dive shops that don't sell Poseidon usually charge more to service them (cuz they want to sell you what they have) I get tired of hearing how much more Poseidon costs to service. Has anyone really done a comparison? I have both old US Divers Conshelf 14s and my Poseidon Odins(jetstream). They have cost the same to service over the years when I go to authorised dealers. My Poseidon's in the states cost less than $100 to service including parts. There are online dealers Scubatoys.com for instance that will sell you a Poseidon at a good price and do yearly service for $49.99 hmm that's US dollars but still a heck of a good deal. My local Dive shop here in Oz (where everything is overpriced) still only charges me $120 to service my Odins the same as any other reg. Yes if need to replace the hose it costs more ,,, but geez in all my years I've never seen a hose go bad if taken good care of not left rotting in the garage in a wet dark bag. Yes if your local dive shop doesn't do a lot of Poseidons and they have to order out for parts they will probably charge way more than needed, but that is the nature of dive shops. Poseidon's are not the latest and greatest in design. They are not the easiest to breath when shallow(but let me tell you the deliver when you need it) They don't fail in a pinch. They work off either side. Easy to Buddy breathe if you really have to do it (face to face) They work upside down on thier side and in any other direction. It's not a trendy design here today gone tomorow. Tried and tested and used by US Navy SEALS and the Swedish Navy. Ohh and to those that say they fail and don't give you air (never happened to me) Here is a clip from Poseidon's page

The Jetstream second stage is equipped with a safety valve in case a high pressure airflow should occur. This safety valve prevents the airstream from flowing out through the mouthpiece straight into your mouth. The construction will instead, release the flowing air out into the water via the hose. In all cases it is possible to breathe from the second stage.

Look if your just diving in warm water less than 10 metres deep I'm sure there are much easier breathing flashy looking regs with lots of knobs to play with that will do just fine. Anything else and you won't find me with anything but a Poseidon,, PERIOD Try before you buy. You either hate Poseidon or you love it. I think though make sure you LDS can service whatever you have. and last but not least don't spend hours on here :no reading posts about this or that (like I do haha) get out and dive!

revive this thread. jetstreams 16 years. xtremes 2 years. never a problem.

300 since 1970 still use it on my sling bottle. It has been everywhere and NEVER failed. 2 - 5000's since then, one on each post. It is an advantage to have a reg work in an emergency regardless of it's orientation (up/down/left/right)

The only problem I have had with a Cyclon was with a student on the line doing a reg retrieve. She could not locate her reg (rental which was free flowing profusely) I handed off the poseidon and she was not familiar/aware that the purge is on the side not on the front of the reg. She knows now!!!

I have my Extream, I love the way it breaths. Just had service, -1- part cost me $85.00 but I didn't Beyotch about it. As the above post stated. Either you love it or hate it but NO OTHER reg is as easy to use in ANY position as my Extream.
