I am new to scuba diving having just got my ow certificate. I am looking to buy a reg that will allow me go through any other courses without any issue (nitrox etc.) I am also looking to get an octopus as well. If i get a poseidon reg do i have to get a poseidon octopus as well. Money is not an issue. Just looking for the most versatility and quality.

I now have four poseidon xtreme regs and have been thrilled with them, they will get you through basically anything, but I don't think they fly with the DIR guys.

Unless you pick up a Cyklon, you do not have to get a Poseidon octo. The cyklon's had an IP (intermediate pressure, what comes out of the first stage) at about 175. Most regs have an IP of about 125-145. The only disadvantage to using these regs is the high service cost for parts and the expensive hoses. They have an overpressure valve built into them. these are'nt accepted by DIR because they are upstream. This (I think) means that they stop delivering air when they fail, instead of freeflowing. Poseidons will get you to practically everywhere, including caves if you go that route.

No matter what you decide, make sure that you can get them serviced at a local shop.

thanks i was worried about that. I think i will possibly get either the extreme duration 90 reg or the extreme deep reg. Which one would you pick?

Frankly I like the Cyclon 300, but then I'm an old fashioned kind of guy.

Its hard to go wrong with the poseidon regs from what I understand, get them serviced well, and enjoy it

I think the Cyklons though have a downstream second stage, where as the Jetstream, Xstream have the upstream.

there is a local shop near me that has a tech who works on poseidons it is also an authorized dealer as well. Which poseidon would you recommend?

X-streams, I had a Jetstream and wasn't thrilled with it. The X-stream breathed better I found.
