You should look up some of the other pony bottle threads. This was like a 2 on the Heat Meter.

Oh ... and glad you found our bickering helpful!

So,ah..................why do you want a pony.:crafty: I want one for solo diving which means I probably need a better buddy.

The reason isnt just one... I do solo... (when i do i dont go deep... max 40)

and really i dont have buddies... I try to go with people from the dive group in my area... and so you can say i dont know what and even when there equipment has tested or what not..

Ive learned there is the time and place for a pony... size does matter.. how deep.. and what you plan to use it for... Think about yourself first then your buddy... (that ones is a job)...

So when I do this... I will have a octo-z on the BC and choose my size....

If you still think its wrong dont dive with me.. :rofl3: <--- I like this little guy...

Sorry, it was one of those things that I thought was so incredibly obvious, it didn't need explanation. Why would you *remove* your backup reg and put it on the pony bottle? The octo is there for a number of reasons...it is your immediate backup source in case of a problem. The only reason to switch to a pony bottle is if you completely run out of gas and you are diving by yourself. To put the octo on the pony, firstly reduces the utility and redundancy of it, and secondly brings the pony closer into part of the dive plan, which it never should be. I'll try to elaborate on this later.

Sorry, but my only problem with your thinking on this is "if you have a promary in your mouth, an octo on your primary source AND a third regulator cliped off some where, a person could run out of air, grab the wrong second regulator and still have no air". Please reference a similar post under "General Discussions" where this was described as occuring to some ones buddy in an AOW Deep Dive class. The OOA happened due to reasons other than an empty primary cylinder, but the diver paniced and when't Polaris when he couldn't get any air from his octo when he should have been grabbing his third regulator attached to his pony.

Simplicity in the set-up of your rig and repeated drilling of your OOA plan is the best way to ensure a successful response to the situation.

Sorry, but there is no problem with my thinking. Don't convolute the configuration. Store the regulator on a slung tank (like a deco bottle or stage) and donate what is in your mouth. Bungee your backup around your neck. The problem with your thinking is that you are adding convolutions to convolutions rather than rethinking the whole problem from the start.

Yup, we can agree on that. Simple, in this case would be a set of doubles plus a competent teammate, though.
