I dont understand why you would say that. The buddy system is a good thing but it certainly is not infalible and it's limitations are highlighted fairly regularly with diving accidents all over the world. Buddy's are great but for me self reliance is more important. BTW - I'm NOT a self reliant diver. Yet. But i'm working on it - I dont want someone else's bad day to get me killed.

Good philosophy, certainly the way I see things. The better, more self-sufficient you are as a solo diver, the better buddy you will make when diving with others.

....and another pony bottle thread turns into a buddy diving thread....

It absolutely never, ever fails. Another way to put it would be DIR v. Everybody Else. Now let's see what conversation that starts! :D

[OP] Anyone have any experence with the Zeagle Envoy Razor

I borrowed one on an AL 30 a week ago and found it extremely tidy. The knob was not too dificult to operate with cold fingers in wet 5mm gloves.

[OP] One main thing would be that my main tank will have my 1st and 2nd stage but no octo and then cary this pony setup. Is this a bad idea??

It seems like a terrible idea, especially if you only have 13 cf of air in the pony. What if you need to donate air at 100' ? Get your own pony buddy? Oh, I hope this isn't too negative.

Soggy:
Yes, that is a bad idea.

If you bash someone's idea. The least you can do is expound on why, in your opinion, it is a bad idea.

Oh, and I agree with Matt_NJ. I like to be as self suffecient as possible because when it comes down to it, it's my *** on the line, not the other diver that never has as much training as I do.

Do I understand this correctly? You are planning on diving with a first stage and only one second stage on your primary tank and a single first stage and single second stage on a 19cft tank as a back up?

Yeah, that's a really bad idea.

Can you post why you think that is a bad idea? I dont use the configuration and never really considered it, but assuming the pony is attached to the primary tank so cant be dropped, and the gas is engaged for the whole dive, why is it bad?

My opinion would be that 19cf just is not enough gas and that config would only make sense to me if it was a 30 or 40cf tank, but i'm not really all that experienced a diver so that is all based off of assumption rather than any practicle experience.....
