I recently purchased a pony bottle used and want to "freshen up it's appearance.

Is there a problem in sanding and painting the bottle? As long as it is not a baked on finish I can't see an issue but wanted to bounce it off those of you that are far smarter than I.

Thanks

There can be a problem with work like that, primarily because the filler will be able to see that something was done and may not be confident it was harmless. Why not just clean off any flaking paint and, if it is aluminum, leave it as is. If steel, spot-painting may be necessary to inhibit rust.

Most hydro places offer " bead blasting" Contact your LDS and ask if its available where they send the tanks to be hydro'd.

Buy stripper from HD or Lowes. Strip the existing paint. Go easy with scraping. Pick up a plastic scraper while you're there. Thoroughly rinse the exterior while protecting the interior with an old valve or 3/4 PVC plug and oring. Scotch Brite for a natural finish or paint as desired, but remember no baking.

And when it's all done, sell it because using it will get you killed!!!! :chairfight:

???? Pedo. Something I need to know?

Thanks for all the info so far!

If you repaint it, you may have trouble getting a VIP if the inspector is worried there might be corrosion hidden underneath the paint.

How has that happened in the past? How do you foresee such a thing happening in the future.

I just don't see how his pony could possibly be any more dangerous than your keyboard.
