I'm a Fish!
Can you launch a zodiac on the Whalers ramp using a trailer the same way you would at Breakwater? They say "hand launchable" is acceptable but does that mean you have to lug it off your trailer or can you back the trailer into the water like at breakwater?

Please help I'm diving there on Tuesday.

I have seen zodiacs launched from trailers there, and nobody said anything. you can contact PLSP for details if you'd like more info. FYI. you need reservations to get in, and last time I looked, it was booked solid for a long ways out for the weekend days. so going on the midweeks is a better bet.

Cool! I have reservations for Tuesday.

keep an eye out for the front half of a reg, and the diaphram that goes with it, as I lost mine a month ago down thre near the boat ramp. reg doesn't work too well with out those parts.

Man, I'll try but ya know that whole "needle in a hay stack" thing and all. How did you part ways with that?

that'san excellent question, but I don't have the answer. I twas overhauled in July last year, and I had dove with it mutiple times since then and now. Begining of the dive I ops checked it for functionality and inserted into the holder for the dive. first dive and during SI I didn't notice anything amiss, but during the second dive I noticed it seemed a bit touchy and seem to purge/ freeflow really easily. When I got out It was plain to see why it free flowed so easy. The front threads on, but there is no positive lock to hold it there from what I can see. any way it forced me to buy a new octo, so some good came out of it.

Basically, all the rangers really care about is that you can
get your boat on and off without disrupting things.
Trailers are fine. I launch my 17' Boston Whaler there
10-15 times a year, but the tides have to be just right
(+2' to put it in, +2.5 to take it out), and Pat Lovejoy, the
dive docent, says its the biggest that can launch. The ramp ends in
a six foot drop at the zero tide line, so when it's a -1.5'
tide, there's an 18" drop. The good news is that
tomorrow is a really good day tide wise.

Be sure you know where you can and cannot dive at
Pt. Lobos.

The pictures are broken in the second one.

Thanks Chuck! I think we are goint to do Cannery Point then Blue Fish Cove. The conditions are excellent so there is also a possibility of the Cave especially if the tide is right on.

Any other suggestions would be greatly appreciated. I have dove Monterey and Carmel many times but this will be my first dive at Lobos.
