I am new, actually, not even taken the 1st class yet, but have been reading, reading & reading some more. Also been doing lots of swimming with my mask, snorkel, & fins. My concern in reading some things here is that now that I have finally gotten rid of having periods...thru HRT & nature...will diving cause any return or breakthrough bleeding? Any input would ease my mind. Thanks.

It doesn´t come back.
Wether you get your period or not is a hormonal thing and is not influenced by diving. I use an IUD and my period stopped because of its hormones about a year ago despite diving regularly.

The period is the sloughing of the endometrium of the uterus every 28 days when there is no implantation of a fertalized egg. In order for the endometrium to thicken in preparation for implantation, there has to be elevated levels of certain hormones. Once menapause starts, these levels no longer change as they did in the past.

Diving therefore will not cause your period to start again. If it did, then women everywhere would be constantly on their period due to diving. Hope that helps, and have fun in your class and diving.

Whew! The Nurse Practicioner told me I could still break through for up to 1-1 1/2 yrs even w/ the Prempro "just because" & not to throw away my supplies. So I thought maybe the pressure from the depths might could be one of those 'becauses' that I might need to worry about. I guess not. Sounds like she might have even been wrong anyway?
Thanks for the feedback. I won't worry about it. :)

Your nurses advice is correct. Menapause doesn't happen overnight and some bleeding can and does occur. But it's your bodies natural process and diving has nothing to do with it!
