The cenotes ARE amazing. Be careful, though . . . The cave bug lives in the cenotes, and if it bites you, you are forever lost.

Hey there divers,

My wife and I just returned from Playa and did a one day diving tour of Chac Mool Cenote. We're both AOW with 80+ dives and it was awesome. She had to do a little soul searching but eventually 'caved' in to take advantage of a real life changing experience. Our divemaster was through the Buceo Cyan-Ha shop and was very knowledgeable, safe, and reliable. The dives themselves were fantastic.

Open-water wise for Playa, not all that impressive compared to Cozumel. Viz was poor for us for early November, could have been Hurricane Paloma stirring things up though.

Good luck and have fun.

I've stayed in PDC twice with my family and dove off PDC, Coz and several cenotes each time. We stayed at Hotel La Tortuga both visits. Check out its top reviews on Tripadvisor.com. It is close to the beach, safe, and great value. Jason of Fantaseadive arranged all our dives for us and used Klaus and Luis from Playa Scuba for the cenote dives. I'd recommend Jason anytime as the person you'll have fun with and feel confident with. Klaus and Luis are tops as well. Here are links to some great pics. Heck...Looking at the pics now again makes me wish I was there one more time. One advantage to staying in PDC is that there is something to do in the evenings...
