I was able to get permission to test gear in the freshwater (and quite chlorine-heavy) pool at my gym - metrowest area, pm me if you are interested to know which pool it was. I am a member, but my husband isn't, and they let us both in - we just had to go after 9 pm. My new warm water bc kicks some serious hiney - I cannot wait for Saba, and now it looks like we may head down to Key Largo for a few days in the spring to dive some of the wrecks there, so I may get to use it twice before summer hits.

Naturally, it was beautiful all weekend - a dive was quite tempting, but as I am still awaiting my Atlan semi-dry mitts (ordered in November!!!), I would have been looking at a long haul for a 25 minute (max) dive with my current gloves, 5mms. I am quite bitter that you guys seem to be able to hang around in 35 degree water with a drysuit and single layer of undergarments and 5 mm gloves or even regular 7 mm mitts - and not get cold. I thought women were supposed to have more body fat, dammit.

Anyways, Saba in 15 days - yahoo! And when we get back, I am getting back in the ocean here, even if I freeze my butt off. 2 months is a long enough break.

Don't believe we don't get cold, but we don't get as cold as fast. 35 degree water is tolerable for an hour or so with the right undergarment, argon, and drygloves.

Like Soggy posted - most of us that dive year round here use drygloves. I used 3 finger mitts for a while, but they really didn't cut it for run times close an hour - and while it may make look like people are just single layer of undergarment, often times it's pretty hi-tech, high cost stuff that works great.

Yeah, I've already decided to scale up my undergarments for next winter - and I may bite the bullet and get some dry gloves, as well. In the meantime, looks like warm water pre-dive soaks for the mitts!! Thanks for making me feel like less of a wuss...
