Damn right!

I did my OW in Dosthill....over several snowy November weekends many years ago. I can't help but feeling guilty that my students here in the Gulf will never get to enjoy diving of that high quality.....

My Thai experience.

Gulf side- I live on Tao. I've also been off the Chumporn coast for 8 or so dives
Andaman side- Off Koh Lanta for 12 or so dives (Koh Ha, Pi Pi, and Hin Daeng/Mueng). Similan liveaboard for 14 dives (Richelieu, Koh Tachai, Koh Bon, and Simlians)

The dives at Hin Daeng and Hin Mueng were some of my favorites of all time. Went back three times. Richelieu was gorgeous and worth the whole liveabord. On Koh Tao, well... let's just say it's comfortable. It's a nice walk in the garden. I will say, though, that I've had some unreal experiences there. Several sunrise dives at chumporn with sharks swimming around me in circles. More than a few turtle dives with only me and my buddy around for the whole dive.

As for the lifestyle.
I love Koh Tao more each month. Best combination of everything.
Phuket? Well, I've only been to Patong. It makes me want to throw up in my mouth. Twice. What an awful place. I'm sure there's more, but I don't have the stomach to go back
Koh Lanta is great. A big Koh Tao if you went back in time. I could spend a lot more time there.

Anyway, I meant to leave a post much more laden with sarcasm and wit, but after reading the post accusing us all of being two bit ass clowns I got very serious.

Those of us that chose to move to Asia are at least worth three or four bits.

That Tiger shark bit me, even though it was dead. I stupidly tried to see how sharp it's teeth were, and they were, very.

! hope i don't see another one dead on the beach, but i also hope i don't see another one 100miles at sea with 2 hours of deco left.

as for the Tao/Phuket Compo, koh tao wins hands down, but i would say that, wouldn't I? I live here!

Hey,

Keep the fighting to a minimum...

why not choose the middle ground...

Khao Lak!

you mean pick on Khao lak? A main road full of tailor's shops and a beach?

wouldn't take long , would it? Great idea though

the "boom" is happening in stages

this year it is "o"

For the sake of investors in Khao Lak I hope you are wrong.
If the "b" of "booming" took 6 years to complete and you're starting this year with the first "o" it will be another 36 years or so before Khao Lak finally becomes a "hot" destination.....

:D
