Yes in those days when you could get a "Khai Jiao Het Kee Khwai" and you could see all manners of little fishies and nudis :eyebrow:

Lots of monster groupers and my first whaleshark(s).... all in the Gulf. Then again, soon after that Terrible Trevor showed up and I stopped enjoying Koh Tao diving...

Terrible Trevor!!...If I remember more than 300 perished in Chumpon alone (not including illegal Burmese fishermen.) It took me 3 days (72hrs) to go from Surat to Bangkok on the train. I had forgotten about that monster.
Thats when Mother Nature bashed Koh Tao!

Sorry It was Typhoon Gay (1989) when I traveled by train from Surat to Bangkok...what a stinking mess that was!!

Sorry, You will have to enlighten me as to who Terrible Trevor is.
Last year I hosted 7 or 8 dive professionals from Koh Tao to Tachai, Surin, Richelieu.
They mentioned some strong armed tactician who controlled the electricity there. Is this Terrible Trevor.

Yep, I passed through Chumporn and Surat Thani in 1989 and 1990 and the destruction was horrible. Then early in '91 I dived the islands just off Chumporn's coast and there were still complete fishing boat wrecks sitting on top of some of the islands.
That was a helluva storm...

I learned to dive in Koa Toa ,actually on Nang Yuan the little islands of of koa toa .All of my first lessons where held in the Japaneses garden being surrounded by fish and the occasional topless bathing beauty although kind of blaa for real dives it sure beats learning in a pool.

After i got certified i dived all over koa toa and although we hit the same spots quiet a few times i never had a dull moment , titan trigger fish attacks on my first dive (bastard put a hole in my fin tip),sea, snakes, turtles,on other dives. And on my first night dive which ended back in the Japaneses garden(surprise surprise) upon surfacing i had to fend of some large brown terrestrial snake swimming home . So boring sea life i just can't agree .though the whale sharks are mythical beasts ..he he

what I'm getting at is I'd go back ,though i don't look forward to the diving partners that took mushrooms the night before

Ive heard that Triggers are of a bad disposition on the East coast..

Trevor was a giant, evil, cunning bastard of Titan Triggerfish. He would hide himself on the reef and suddenly pop up right in front of you at a moment that you were just looking in another direction. He was able to pick out the Dive Leaders / DM'rs and get great pleasure by viciously attacking such person. He would bump, bite and chase you and would not let go too. Nothing to do with having a nest, protecting eggs or territory. Trevor would just love to scare and hurt divers and was very-very good at it as well. I have experienced bad-triggerfish behavior a good many times over the years but Trevor was way-way on top compared to all the others.
