What photo editing software does everyone use? Do you use what comes with the camera or do you have a favorite? We use Dell Picture Studio/Image Expert that came with our computer. I'm just wondering if there is something out there that is good and not too expensive.

Again, PS Elements is a fantastic program. If you've got the cash, go for PSCS. There is a tremendous amount of help here and elsewhere on the net for the Adobe products.

There is also a free program out there that is supposed to be excellent, but I can't remember the name of it right now. It's biggest downside is that there aren't a lot of users and so help can be hard to find.

If you do get Photoshop Elements, I strongly recommend getting the book by Scott Kelby, "The Photoshop Elements Book for Digital Photographers".

It doesn't have much on manipulating underwater photos, but it does cover lots of other subjects such as red eye removal, portrait touchups such as removing wrinkles and blemishes, and even such wild things as slimming buttocks, brightening teeth, and colorizing hair. I found his straightforward explanations of how to do such things taught me a lot about the various Photoshop Elements features that weren't obvious from reading other books and the manual.

I got an older version of CorelDraw 9.0 that comes bundled with Corel PhotoPaint for around $25 - you can find this at a software liquidator. I've used CorelDraw since v1.1.2 around 1990 - awesome program.

For most editing it use Photoshop (I have version 5...really old). I have a program called ACDSee vers 7 which is excellent for viewing and I use it to batch resize, batch rename, quick photo edits like auto color correction, increase brightness and contrast etc. I find I use it more than photoshop.

I use PS6 (I don't need RAW support so there's not much need to upgrade).

Thanks for the input. Amazon.com had Photo Elements 3.0 on sale for $45 (with rebates), so I ordered one. PC Magazine gave it 4.5 out of 5 stars. Also ordered the book recommended by Charlie99. Can't wait until they get here.

You will have sooooo much fun with elements! I learn to do something new with it every time I use it. If I ever have time (like that's gonna happen) I'd like to go back and try to work on some of my older pictures. I'm sure there is a world of difference.
