Today’s pet peeve:

Instructors who trash talk other instructors and classes at the same dive site.

Had final day of CCR training today. A dive shop had a large AOW class. One of the AOW instructors was saying, rather loudly, that rebreathers were a waste because you’d have to bail out to open circuit anyway. There were some other comments I won’t post.

I returned the favor by talking about the poor misguided divers forced to use dorkels and how absolutely ridiculous they looked. I got an evil look in return.

Isn't that like the freshman chemistry teacher bashing the PhD physics class?

And they sometimes blow the end of the DIN fitting dry only to see the o-ring fly off... then spend 15 mins fittting another one, if they even carry a spare
I guess one shouldn't do it if you use DIN.

Cuz it hurts my fuhking ears!
It's a little Psssst sound. Unless you ear's right next to it it shouldn't hurt. There are way louder things-- perhaps it's just an annoying sound? I mean seriously, if it really hurts you may want to see an ENT. Maybe it doesn't bother me because I'm used to all that noise teaching Band....

Why does that tank sound to blow water out of cap bother some people so much?
It's just a "pet peeve", I don't say anything or even give them a dirty look or shake my head
As I just towel dry the surface of the dustcap.

And please, dry the cap with a cloth or towel and fit it securely to the regulator. If you have a DIN regulator, check that the cap is actually waterproof , some are only dust caps.
OK, I will say no more on the subject.
Old man rant [peeve], over.

Edit: Removed a crude moment about "blow ***" .

I've had it done where I felt the blast in the back of my head. It is unnecessary, counter productive actually

My gf might say that I’m immature but I don’t cry about stupid stuff. A lot of you guys sound grouchy and entitled. Maybe just concentrate on yourself and enjoying the dive; life is too short.

Some of you might want to fill this out.

I only use yoke but if I suspect any water got into the valve hole during a tank swap/reg swap then I’ll blow it out, but I hold a towel or t-shirt over it and nobody even knows.
