today was a day to remember in that i am scheduled (finally) for AOW and followed that up by collecting so many quohogs i almost couldn't surface. all the while on the clam dive two curious scup followed me for a good ten minutes waiting for me to dig up something they could eat. 73 degrees out there off the newport bridge with a nerve-rattling 12 foot max depth.

i've never felt so alive.

i see johnnyseko seems to have shown you the sweet spot?

its a ....yummy spot :)
i need to get down down there within the next few days im getting a hankering for some quahogs

And unlike lobstering around here.... it is actually possible to bag the limit in quahogs there!!!!

So Ray, does this mean you are back in the water?

And Dave, hurry up with the AOW so we can drag you out on charters! Hehe.... by the way I can't figure out what you mean by peer pressure..... :D

can i say yes?

I dont know what you're talking about....:11doh: :D

I snorkeled Wetherill today. Max depth @5', was with the kids. Saw 2 baby snowy grouper. That's about all. Of course I had my camera in hopes of a lionfish sighting...:shakehead
Really surprised how nice it was down there today, even with the winds from the south, fairly calm.

I am curious... when you guys find clams, do you have to 'dig' for them, or are they sitting on the bottom? or somthing in between?

yeah im back to diving.

as far as the clams..
around here there just below the surface on the bottom and even the edged poking out a little ususally a light mud/ sand kinda bottomfanning the bottom with you hand usually exposes them.
as the water cools they will go a little deeper, mid winter at there deepest there 4-6" down
you must be a RI resadent to take them in RI and are allowed 1/2 bushell if i recall.
once you find a good spot. its ez top bag up

so for all of you who are in on mine and johnnysekos spot..
clam up :)
hahaha get it hahah clam haha

Shucks, leave it to you to shell out some real pearls of clam humor!!! You probably even have a book of clam jokes sitting on your mantle! :D

Anyway, glad to hear you're back at it!
