Unless that time you really need it is one of those times you didnt hook it up. :D

It's the only piece of Halcyon equipment I have... (not only so I can say 'I love peeing on Halcyon... :rofl3:)

But on a serious note, the Halcyon version is fine, however, I'm told by those who know, a balanced version doesn't really have any great benefits and the bulk of the valve inside the dry suit can cause you to wear a hole in the suit right there.

One issue is placement. I had never thought about it, but when I had Steve Gamble put mine in, he pointed out that I was carrying a least an O2 bottle almost every dive, and at the end of a long dive on deco, I'd have a bottle on my right side (if you use 'Right-Rich, Left-Lean') so I should put in on my right side so I could reach cross-wise with my left hand, under the O2 bottle to unscrew the safety bolt on the outside. That made a lot of sense and that's what I ended up doing.

It pays to ask the folks that know and thats what I did...

BTW, make sure the glue seals or your going to think your suit started leaking... First time you use a external catheter you know what I mean... :)

another btw... lighthouse for the blind has great prices on bulk catheters... lbindustries.com and see the Saint Louis page...

Had my inaugural dives with my Halcyon today.

PS - you leave it open at all times, other than if it fails, so placement relative to where you might need to reach it to open it up might be somewhat mute.

I have an Oxycheq balanced p-valve in my primary suit. Get a balanced unit of whatever make catches your fancy, do some research, and install it yourself. It's way harder to make nice holes in the undergarments than the suits themselves.
Or wear the damn diapers. They do have their fans as well.

I have an OMS balanced. A pee valve is one of those things that, once you have one, you never go back. I consider it a safety item. I used to stay somewhat dehydrated so that I didn't need to pee during the dive. I took an "undeserved" hit, and the hyperbaric doc said that being dehydrated was one of the major causing factors. So now it's nice to be able to drink, drink, during before the dive and not have to worry about it.

Some say, What? You can't hold it for an hour, old man? Actually, there is a thing called Immersion Diuresis that makes one need to pee when submerged in the water.

It's easy to install your own, once you get past the putting-a-hole-in-your expensive drysuit issue.

Don't feel bad. I used to lust after a drysuit, too. :D
