I had actually never heard of Jimmy Buffett until my OW course. The instructor constantly made references to Jimmy and I seemed to be the only one who had no clue what he was talking about.

So after my certification I bought a Jimmy Buffett CD. Thus I became a diver and a Parrothead because of this instructor. The funny thing is that years later I saw Jimmy for the first time on TV and that is when I realized that he is a spitting image of my dive instructor.

Do you guys think Jimmy taught some diving?

Did he make reference to fins to the left or right?

Managed to catch his show in Las Vegas in April and again in Portland (Vancouver WA) this year. Can't go to too many!

"The cannons don't thunder, there is nothing to plunder, I'm an over 40 victim of life"

Soooo, true

BILLB once bubbled...
When is he playing. Where in Orlando? I can work something into my schedule so I can be there!

Usually he plays in the middle of february. I'll let you know when tix go on sale.

My wife and I had tickets to the Irvine Meadows show last Saturday. We were disappointed that it was cancelled, and saddened by Jimmy's loss. It was my understanding that he was recording material for his next live album. We'll have to catch him next time he comes to port. Remember; A little gris gris will keep you safe from harm.

Did you know Lots of boaters, divers, spearfishermen and residents in Fl would like to push the great parrothead overboard with cement shoes, for all the environmental legislation he pushes, restricting access to the water, restrictions, overpopulating the areas he sings about etc. fyi ~Z

Okay, so the guy has a thing about manatees...
But he's pro-beef (cheese burger in paradise), pro-shrimper (Margaritaville), and anti prohibition (name the song). He paints a picture that I enjoy, though his politics may be different to mine in some respects. My kind of entertainer/politician/ advocate/zealot usually packs heat.

Florida needs strong leaders that do more than talk and take your money. Water quality is a concern for us as divers. I have photos of the Keys under water from 1985. I can no longer shoot pictures as clear and beautiful today. If Bubba can help this problem I am for it.

On the other hand, he has glorified the life style and it has resulted in more people messing up the Keys. But then again Miami and other Florida locations have suffered the crush of people too and I doubt that Jimmy's songs encouraged all that mirgration.

I like the songs, the lifestyles, the Keys and it is hoped that education will keep it all togather (another area that Florida has not done too well in, education).

Lets go back to the days of "Trying to Reason with Hurricane Season" and drink from that "Tin Cup Chalice".
