Let's look at some FACTS, shall we?

First, Manatees are not endangered at present. Why can I say this? Because their population (as measured by the very people trying to ban the boats) have TRIPLED in the last 30 years. A species that has had its population TRIPLE is not in danger of extinction. It is recovering.

You're nothing if not predictable, Karl.

This is an incredibly ludicrous statement (although you've picked the right forum to try and pass it off). Going from 1000 individuals to 3000 individuals is hardly reason to remove a species from the endangered list. It doesn't surprise me that an ecological group has taken it's mandate too far, but their "raison d'tere" is still valid. And believe it or not, there's more to the nautical world and JB than just Florida.
 
The definition of being on the endangered list, from a legal perspective, includes population declines that put a species at imminent risk of extinction.

The Manatee may currently qualify as "threatened", but it does not qualify as "endangered."

"Slow zones"? Not just slow zones - no entry zones.

Banning docks? How do you intend to get onto the boat so you can go diving? Without a dock you're going to have some trouble getting on board, are you not? And the boat's owner will have some trouble having a place to keep said boat, thus, he won't - and you won't be doing any diving.

I didn't realize there was a boat shortage in SW Florida. I guess they need to build more docks so they can get more boats out on the water.

We're having the same problem with condos here on the east coast. There's a shortage of ocean front condos. We'll just have to build more.
 
the part about permits and the $MC's goals.

You need one if your dock needs renovation or replacement (say, if a storm comes through.)

The $MC has already been involved in preventing at least one well-documented and publicized marina (Whitley's on the East Coast) from rebuilding at all after a storm. The last I heard, the property was sold after the owners were unable to secure the permits necessary to repair their slips.

Ever think about what happens when the dock that your favorite dive boat is at suffers a similar fate?
