I think for the interest of simplicity I like option 3 as well. I think several people have valid options when it comes to sub groups, so in the interest of simplicity can the Panhandle just secede from FL Conch? Maybe by just changing DDD to include the Panhandle instead of leave FL out of it.

3.) have the Panhandle secede from Florida - Just simply redfine your area and make all of the FL panhandle part of the Deep Dixie Divers Group. No new forums and much easier to read threads/forums

DAMN RIGHT! Let's take the panhandle away from Florida! Do we need uniforms - I flag - maybe a cool song like "Dixie" I'm IN!

I like 3-just mod the words like MrXRay suggested so that people new to the panhandle would know to go to DDD.

I live in Pensacola but might catch a boat out of anywhere as I am close to most areas.

Personally option 3 suits me just fine. The panhandle has been my playground since I was in diapers. It's sorta what we have defaulted to anyway.

Hey guys, great discussion and we are following it. Let me tell you how we see it at the moment.

Every time we mess with Florida it seems that a civil war breaks out. We are very, very reluctant to mess with the current demarcations for the main forums. It's not that we don't want to listen to your suggestions, it's just that we don't want to listen to the accompanying drama and angst that would probably follow such a move.

We have no problems adding a "club" to cover any particular area, but normally we still keep only one trips and marketplace. Too many divisions only cause confusion. If you want the club we only require that 10 people step up to say they want it. Pretty easy really, and if it doesn't work out we can always absorb it into other areas.

As many of you pointed out, what we have seems to be working just fine as it is. There is no rule that prohibits trips into Florida being posted in DDD. There is also no reason why you can't ask a mod to help you with a redirect from one marketplace to another.

However, at the end of the day ScubaBoard exists for YOU the diver. In following our tradition of always trying to do what's best for the entire Board, we listen to your suggestions and concerns intently. We want to arrive at a solution for any problem without creating solutions in search of a problem. Bear with us as we try to work through all of this. Of course, we hope that you haven't finished discussing this topic. More input is always best, and I always appreciate PMs and E-Mails if you want to say something about it in private. We're here for you.

that's kinda what started the problem last time. In my personal opinion, I'd say no. (on starting a new thread in the FL conch forum) But that's just my opinion.... If the folks from south florida want to read about what the folks in the panhandle are doing, let them come read it here. (they have otherwise never really given us much thought, so why start now....)


Like I said, that's how the problem started last time..... 'Panhandlers' asked for their own group and started a thread.... that gave all the other geographic areas of florida a good idea and they all decided that they needed to start their own groups also, within FL conch forum.

then they decided to do a vote and that was even a bigger mess..... I don't think the moderators meant to have the process as screwed up as it happened, but it was a real cluster-fluff. (you know what I mean).


I think it's a general consensus so far that most folks don't really want a new group, sub-group, or sub-forum. So lets just mark that off the list. (or we can leave it open for those joining the fun late...)

So... basically that boils down to option 3.) and option 4.)

4.) D.N.F.W. it. (meaning, leave it alone).​

I'm personally ok with either way. But I will tell you that often panhandle threads in the FL conch forum get lost by other "Florida traffic" and not seen by the folks who drive down and dive there from Deep Dixie.

So the Dixie folks will welcome the Panhandlers with open arms, if you want to hop up.

But if the Panhandlers as a majority want to stay south of the 31st parallel, that's cool too, but just realize that people will still post threads in two seperate forums for that area.... (it'll just happen...)

That would be GREAT.

Remember as we discuss this, we have to consider usability for
1) Experienced members
2) Noobs
3) Visitors

My personal feeling is that it's already WORKING with zilch for drama. Maybe this is a solution in search of a problem.
