Palau hotel help?

Greetings to all--

Well, I've got my reservation for the Ocean Hunter III in Palau in early January 2017 locked in.

But, I need a hotel on the front (1 night) and back sides (2 nights).

Maybe not quite as fancy as the PRR/PPR, but not a flea-bag/college student place either.

My wife will be with me, so something clean, quiet and safe, that is easily accessible to town.

Any suggestions? Places that are good? Places to avoid?

I would say Sea Passions. Breakfast included, walk to Kramers, Drop Off Bar and Grill, Bottom Time Bar and Grill. Your wife would be happier than at any of the "motel" offerings. We stayed 1 week at PPR and 1 week at Sea Passions

West Plaza Desekel Hotel (similar to a Motel 6 here in States), just off Main Street Koror; a close by pick-up for the Ocean Hunter Liveaboards and Fish n' Fins Dive-Ops. Right around the corner from Bank of Hawaii and ATM (btw, both Palau and Truk use US dollars currency), and fair walking distance to the eateries along Main Street/Downtown Koror. There's also the West Plaza Hotel Downtown site, closer to the WCTC Shopping Center of Main St, nearby the Post Office, and also United Airlines ticketing office.

I would bite the bullet and do the Palau Royal. Most of the "motels" are also booked according to orbitz. Most of the others are Motel 6 quality

Two nights booked on the tail end at the PRR. I have to find an inexpensive "hot and a cot" for a night on the front end, but that will have to wait a day or two. Flying for the weekend.

We stayed at the Yuhi Motel. $89/night. It's not fancy, but clean, quiet, safe, good a/c, good enough shower, slow wifi (actually, IME all of Palau has s-l-o-w wifi). Located within walking distance of most things in downtown (well, within walking distance of everything we needed), several shops and restaurants less than a block away.

Book it through Fish N Fins, I think you get a discount. I just emailed and they made all the arrangements for our arrival night (we arrived 4 am, just wanted to sleep a bit and take a shower before getting on the boat). Norman (from Fish N Fins) met us at the airport on arrival and drove us the the motel. We checked in, slept 4-5 hours, showered, walked around a couple blocks, then Norman came back and picked us up at noon, delivered us to the dive shop. After getting off the boat (8 am), we had no firm plans until our 2 am departure. Norman drove us back to the Yuhi, we arranged the room on the spot, again we slept for a bit, showered, walked a few blocks to a coffee shop (good a/c, smoothies, the Superbowl live on TV, slow wifi), killed a couple hours there, went back and slept some more, rejiggered our bags. At 11 pm, Norman came back to take us to the airport. No charge for any of the transfers (left a good tip for Norman, though, he was great).

Not a fancy place, no pool, no view, but reliable and perfectly comfortable for what we wanted before/after the boat. Very friendly and helpful motel management. I'd stay there again. If you just want your basic/safe/clean/comfy enough/functional place to rest up, this worked perfectly well for us.

Enjoy your trip - I think you will (and I'm gonna try and fly tomorrow too, if we get a VFR day...). Hope that helps.

When I was there last spring I stayed at the Palau Paradise hotel in downtown Koror. I thought it was fine... clean, convenient to grocery stores and restaurants and not terribly high cost. I'll be staying there again next month and in May

Yikes, hotels are filling out fast-- prices jumped $40/night between this morning and tonight. But, everything but a night at the Blue Lagoon in Truk are done.

Bayview Hotel in Guam for a few nights before Palau. Since I'm travelling Space Available, going out a few days early probably isn't a bad idea. And I'm hoping to dive the Cormoran/Tokai Maru wrecks and go to Talofofo Falls while I'm there.

West Plaza Hotel Desekel for one night on arrival in Palau before embarking on the OH-III. It's a "cot and a hot" for about 12 hours, so no worries.

The Palau Royal Resort for two nights after disembarking from the OH-III. My wife wants to kayak a day, and then we'll spend our last day there sitting by the beach and relaxing.

The Bayview Hotel again for one night between Palau and Truk.

Waiting on a response from the Blue Lagoon for a room after the Odyssey.

Aaaaaand, I think everything but the shouting is booked-- it's been a BIG project.

Might as well call & get a quote from Truk Stop Hotel too -- if Blue Lagoon doesn't respond or have an availability after the Odyssey itinerary. . .
