Hmm? I was talking about shooting from 70. jaydee was mentioning other situations where not being able to hold a stop could be serious.

oops, guess I got lost.

Another problem i have with PADI is they are known for quick training and i think that most people wont take the time to work on skills or learn more in depth about procedures

So i think its gonna introduce a group like some OW and AOW that only dive on trips so they wont dive for 3 years then jump in and do a 200ft dive and youll start seeing lots of incident of blowing stops or poor gas management ect..

Perhaps my view is warped a little, I guess the people I see getting into tec diving are mostly full time dive professionals, most of which have 1000´s of dives, looking to extend themselves. Not the holiday maker or weekend warrior type who just meet the minimums. I would have the same reservations if we were looking at the minimum requirements (from any agency).

the guy I taught the tec Deep to was a recreational instructor trainer, an NSS full cave diver, cavern IT, and ex full time cave guide. though we completed the program, I only certified him as apprentice tec, the reason? I felt that I would not like to dive with him at depth. is that a good enough reason? I am happy to cave dive with him, but deep is different. More training and practice may change my mind, but that is up to him not me.

I decided to put that in just to show the board that I am not a complete advocate of opening the door to everyone, that I do have a little bit of judgement and normally err on the side of extreem caution. That is why I am writing on this board, not lying in a curly shaped coffin. I have done the dives and I am still here to talk about it, so I guess the guy who taught me, taught me right and I apreciate his efforts.

I think we need to start a new thread regarding training philosophy

ps. I launch the bouy from 20'.......... but only during trainig in the pool.

If I can't shoot a bag and hold myself neutral while doing it, I have no business taking ANY techical training from ANY agency.

PERIOD.

For one Kane and I agree. Call the doctor - I think my heart just stopped!

I have to ask. What was it that an experienced cave diver and caver instructor had trouble with in the class?

Also, why is it that you are comfortable diving with him in a cave but not in 165 ft of OW.

Cave divers tend to get you into some deco, use stages and most use O2 for decompression so this should have all been old stuff to him.
