It’s all a marketing con.

It has very little to do with marketing. They’re catching up to the other agencies that have already responded to what customers are aaking for.

The move to digital everything is here to stay and accelerating. No amount of head-in-the-sand pessimism is going to stop it. You can keep using your plastic. No one will stop you. But very few people under 40 have any interest in carrying around a plastic card.

Padi moved to full ecard in the middle east about 2 years ago.

The thing is : the coast guards never accepted those, and over here coast gard approval is mandatory for any dive. Return on experience is that every one is now printing their card on paper and trying to get them accepted (which works almost everytime, to be fair).

For my side, I explain to the students that although they are certified, they should not rely on the padi cert but rather print any plastic card at a stationery shop with their name, picture and something like "certified diver"

I guess my certifications are all old enough to not show up as e-cards. Typically PADI. Put Another Dollar In. $48 for an AOW e-card? Are you kidding me? I've still got my plastic cards somewhere ... and shops have honored my pics of them on my phone or made the phone call. $48!!

Are you sure you have the latest version of the PADI app? My version (which shows all my PADI cards, dating from 1999) is 2.0.74.

Mine is 1.36.0, which is the most recent showing in the apple app store, updated 3 weeks ago. I don’t have any e-cards showing, either, but I’m not too concerned since I never use the app anyway.

You can text or email it from app, so that is nice I guess

My oldest cert is from 2018, but only 1 cert is showing up as an e-card (EANx from 2/2019 -- think there may have been a "free" e-card promo at the time). My 2 certs before that, and several since then, all show up as no-eCard with no info other than listing them (no number, dates, photo, instructor, etc. listed).

$48 per eCard is absolutely insane! Individual eCards are a bit crazy to me anyhow -- especially at 1 cert per card. I just put all of my C-cards on my scanner and put them all on a 2 page PDF along with my DAN insurance. I then email this to any new dive op that I use before I travel, just in case I forget, lose it, etc. I have this PDF on my phone and in my Gmail, so I can pull it up on any computer. Works fine.

What version PADI App are you using?

2.0.74 -- just downloaded it today.
Hmmm. I wonder why some folks seem to be seeing their cards and others are not?
