My first set of regs were aqualung titans. They worked and breathed fine. My second set of regs were hogs. Again, same thing. Breathed a bit better than the titan. Having just moved to a twinset, I have a hog d-1/hog classic second stage on one post and an apeks ds4/atx 40 (cheap as chips in the uk) on the other. My apeks is brand new, my hog is coming up on 2 years old. Equal in performance, weigh about the same. Only difference is the hog 2nd has an adjustment knob, which I can easily fit to the atx 40

... I believe this was an OW student who had no clue about what he should be buying. He wanted to buy his first regulator after his checkout dives and wanted to choose between Aqua Lung and Apeks. This is how the difference was explained to him by the sales rep:

"They are both owned by the same parent company but you have to ask yourself whether you would like to own a battle tank or a Rolls Royce. Aqua Lung brand is the Rolls Royce of scuba regulators. It stands for tradition and comfort. Apeks on the other hand is a battle tank. It stands for pure indestructability. Think about it. If you would like to wake up next to a sexy woman with status then you want Aqua Lung. If you want to wake up next to a faithful wife who may not look like a model from outside but will be with you through thick and think and will stand next to you on your death bed then go for Apeks."

Users of Apeks and Aqua Lung. Do you see your regulators that way?

So what the sales rep was saying is if you want to rent a reg for a night (oops I meant to say a dive) go with the AquaLung, if you want to actually purchase the reg go with Apeks.

I guess my HOGs are the girl next door but when the action starts she sure knows how to perform:)

According to most dive shops that sell the other higher profit gear HOG would be described as coyote ugly Urban Dictionary: coyote ugly.

Someone ought to bitc......er, regulator slap that sales rep.

So you are saying that your Apeks Atx 40 is a better breather than you Aqua Lung Titan?

I suppose a ScubaPro is a girl from "The Jersey Shore". Not all that hot, but sure thinks she is :)

I see scubapro as a beautiful faithful girl whose parents suffer from mental illness

When you think about, they could be both at the same time. To many innuendos to this possibility. B

All of these regulator threads are bogus as is the salesman. Very few people could reliably tell the difference between any top of the line or even mid level regulator if blindfolded and very few people who claim this or that breaths a little better than some other this or that have ever put any of them on a flow bench or a Magnehelic.

THe AL vs Apeks comparison is about as ridiculous as I have ever heard and besides, everybody lusts after a Scubapro even if all they can afford is the cheap Chicom knockoff.
