I first saw those on an oil rig in the gulf, covering one crosspiece at a specific depth. At the next crosspiece, purple (or blue) polyps were coating the metal. It was like floating over a field of widlflowers.

Enjoyable report, and some lovely photos. Great capture on the spawning bivalves!
