 Someone posted a picture on facebook that showed a dive op announcement the Oriskany was closed due to oil.

Interesting. There has been a thick layer of oil over it for several weeks. Has that been removed?

Several weeks????? I was there 13 days ago....NO OIL. 100' viz. Where are you guys getting this info? Granted...anything could have occurred in the last 13 days but I this is the first negative report I have heard from the site. Go check out my video on MBT' home page. I am the diver with the stars and stripe do-rag.

I know a couple of dive shops/charters have just sworn of the Gulf and announced this a couple weeks ago, but then one of those same dive shops is advertising a Dive this weekend.

I honestly think it is hit and miss......I am willing to gamble some gas.

12 days ago there were several video's done, where the oil was about a foot deep over it...but you are correct, it is hit or miss.

Also be aware that if the boat goes thru any oil on the way out or back, it has to be decontaminated before going into the bay.. and that can take some time.

Given that they shut down cleanup operations today....would guess the chances for a clean trip are not going to be very good.

On the other hand, if I were in the area, would be willing to try. Sure beats sitting around.

Am not sourcing this photo since I didn't take it.

Thank JAX....but at the risk of sounding like a cock-eyed optimist...that looks like it may be a board from H20Below....and they just told me that they have not been to the site in a month....so it could just be more bad information.

If it wasn't for the fact that I was out there 2 weeks ago when every news outlet was saying Oil all over the place I would prolly be scared off....but I think the onlt truth is that diving is hit and miss right now.

Obviously, that is from Down Under dive shop in Gulf Shores, AL (the name of the boat gives it away).

However, because it is dry-erase, it must be able to be changed daily.
