Cool. :thumb: That would be the Elite courtesy upgrade? Not a mileage upgrade, right?

Yes, you must submit your Delta number when you book, the system will automatically request the upgrade provided that is what your account is set up to always request the upgrade. Its a very cool perk. I have gotten an upgrade every time. I am planning a trip to Cozumel in September or October and will use the last of my American miles for the trip...no upgrade there but free air.

Wish it worked for just the hotel or a hotel & car package. I get cheap air direct with the airline and use miles to upgrade. Can't do the upgrades w/ miles if I book a package through a third party.
It will work for a hotel & car package - that's what we do all the time. We book the air direct - usually Continental, but we use Orbitz for a hotel/car package. We like that because if the package price drops, we cancel the original booking for the $25 Orbitz fee, then just go back on line and rebook at the lower price. Re-booking has saved us quite a bit on the last few trips.

Well dang, I never tried it - but I didn't see why it would not work, so did. Can't start with Sidestep, but just go to Orbtiz.com and select Car & Hotel, put in the code, and the price drops...

That's about $64.57/night + full coverage. Booking the same Hotel Cozumel alone would be $90/night. Even by the time you add full insurance to the package deal, it's like Free Car. :eyebrow:

Glad this came up...!

The price seems to change quite often, it pays to check back now and then after you book. I just re booked, The price dropped $100 so I saved $75. I thought it was a good price to start with, now its even better.

Thanks for the code Don. Last year you posted the code and I tried to use it on Orbitz as well. It doesn't seem to work for me though. I'm trying to book eight nights and flight and it makes no adjustments to any packages.

I do an initial search, then enter my promotion code, hit refresh results tab and then none of the packages are lowered.

Not sure what I'm doing wrong.

You have to actually select the package as if you're buying it and then enter the code. Price will then drop on that one chosen package and you are not fully committed at that point.

Yeah, I think that's it. Refresh doesn't do it. I think you hit Continue as illustrated in steps 2 & 3 in post 5 above.

If you still have problems, give me your dates, city, preferred flights and hotel - I'll try to illustrate better. Or call the help line.

Yup ... the first time we used it, it was cheaper to get the hotel & car, than the hotel alone. One of the advantages is the taxes are already added into the package, but when doing the hotel alone, the taxes are added in at the end.

Checking back is a big key ... one trip I think I rebooked 3 times, but ended up saving a couple hundred bucks - even after the Orbitz fee.

Not necessarily - at least not when looking for a hotel/car deal.... you can enter your info in the Quick Search. Once your list of hotel/car choices appear, click on the 'I have a promo code' thats at the top left. Enter the code and click the 'refresh result' button. You should get this message: "Congratulations! Your promo code has been accepted. For eligible properties, your discount will be applied in the payment process." From there click on the car column of the hotel you want to look at. It will take you to the package and show that the $200 Orbitz discount was applied and the lower per night cost. If you want to look at another option on the list, just click the 'back to results' that's near the top right. You can click back and forth through as many of the hotel/car choices as you want without having to reenter the Orbitz code.

Edit: see fishi's post below...! [-]So, if I booked Air & Hotel or Car this way, then the air went down like it did last spring during the flu scare, I could then rebook for $25 penalty instead of the airline's $150 fee...?[/-]

Okay, I follow you now. Never noticed that small print link in the upper left corner. Another point of possible confusion tho...
1: I was trying the Window Refresh button - not working!
2: You have to use their button to get it to work.

Let me clarify tho...

1: Go to Orbitz Travel: Airline Tickets, Cheap Hotels, Car Rentals, Vacations & Cruises, select either Quick Search or Vacation Packages, fill in the info with a choice of air & hotel or car & hotel...

2: Click Find box to go to the next page and look for "I have a promotion coupon" in upper left corner...

I guess it was always there, but I kept missing it.

3: Click the link pictured above to get this box, where you insert the code and click that Refresh Results, not the Window refresh...

4: Then you get a list of results before discount, but look for the coupon icons. As it says: Enter your promotion code, then look for packages marked with the icon Coupon. We'll deduct the amount from the total cost when you pay. Only one promotion code allowed per booking.

Well, I tried some on that list without the coupon icon and it still worked? :silly: Just keep trying.
