opinon on mares abyss 2000

I recently bought an Abyss, and it said 2000 on it. I assumed that I had bought a 3 year old model (which explains why it cost $300 from the LDS), but now I am thinking that it's the model number. Which is it? Possibly both?!

PS I have the Axis octo; wanted the Proton but the LDS didn't have it in stock. :loopy:
