Would love to get your opinions - If you could buy either the DGX Gear D6 or the Dive Rite FT1/XT2 reg set for your pony bottle setup for the EXACT same price, which one would you go with and WHY?

Pair up with the Dive Rite Xt4.

If this is for a pony bottle, neither. I'd go with this since a pony is a back up in case the stuff hits the fan. You only need it to get you to the surface. Once you go to the pony, the dive is over.
The first is solid, reliable, easy to service yourself as is the 2nd.

Pair up with the Dive Rite Xt4.

The first stage in the Piranha page is the same as the DGX. They are both unbalanced flow by piston regulators. Very similar to the older Scubapro Mark 2. However, the Mark 2 Evo is considerably improved both in flow capacity and cold water suitability and also meeting EN250A specs compared to the Mark 2 or either of these regulators.
